Irish single pot still whiskey has a romantic mystique for many whiskey critics because of its tragic history as the ‘lost sister’ of single malt scotch. Ireland’s history and politics resulted in the near-annihilation of the national drink and there’s an almost eerie beauty to the ‘silent’ distilleries that still dot the Irish countryside. These distilleries inform the aesthetic of the title and, indeed, there is visual poetry in the barrels, pot stills and photogenic amber spirits that convey the Irish whiskey world. Although Irish whiskey is currently the fastest-growing global spirits category and Irish ‘pure pot still’ has long been a favourite drink among whiskey critics and connoisseurs, the existing literature is still surprisingly sparse. This book illustrates the production, history, and appreciation of Irish pot still whiskey and will introduce casual drinkers to the richness of these whiskeys as well as being a collectors’ item for established whiskey connoisseurs.

Very flat, Kildare. It is the flatness of this great limestone plain with its rich pastures and its proximity to Dublin that has made Kildare a place of importance since the dawn of history. Early Christian settlements prospered here of which the Convent of St Brigid was the most famous. The Normans, with their infallible eye for good land, quickly made it their own and built a series of great tower houses and castles to defend the Pale from the Gaels of Wicklow and the south midlands. The county was the home of the Geraldines, the Leinster branch of the FitzGerald family, which completely dominated political life in late medieval Ireland, and later went on to be the only ducal family in Ireland.

Hopkins In Ireland written by Norman White and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Gerard Manley Hopkins spent five unhappy years in Ireland before his death in 1889, during which time he wrote perhaps the most interesting group of all his poems. Although he is one of the most well known and liked of poets, he is still one of the least understood. This is a full-length study of Hopkins's time in Ireland, when he was Professor of Classics at University College Dublin, and it is both a biography and a critical account of the poetry. Norman White examines the poet's personality and shows him as a sick and self-lacerating human being. This is not a conventional biography and it does not aim to be an account of Hopkins's doings in Ireland: the important things that happened to Hopkins in Ireland were mental, and so the book is an exploration of the poems written in Ireland largely as a form of psychological biography, working outwards from Hopkins's most intimate creations.

Drawing together the history of Victorian architecture in Ireland, this book is a gazetteer in the traditional sense, a list of entries for individual buildings on a country by country basis, heavily illustrated and prefaced by useful maps; the index at the back contains a valuable list of Irish Victorian architects and their works. The entries cover all types of buildings, large and small, and reveal an encyclopaedic knowledge of Ireland.
