Os belos casulos os fósseis mais antigos conhecidos de borboletas são do meio do Eoceno, entre 40-50 milhões de anos atrás. As borboletas demonstram polimorfismo, mimetismo e aposematismo. Algumas, como a Borboleta-monarca, migram longas distâncias. Algumas borboletas desenvolveram relações simbióticas e parasíticas com insectos sociais tais como as formigas. Algumas espécies são pestes pois enquanto larvas podem danificar culturas ou árvores; porém, algumas espécies são agentes de polinização de algumas plantas e as lagartas de algumas borboletas (e.g. as da subfamília Miletinae) comem insectos nefastos. Este livro intensifica o existir permanente da poesia amazonense segundo eventos e elementos diversos que constituem a força variada e vívida da natureza. A lua, por exemplo, comparece em inúmeras descrições: lua crescente, oculta, saída da lua, lua bulha, lua no blecaute, lua cheia, bicos da lua, lua de verão, a lua também se banha, mesma lua, luas redondas, lua amarela, luz da lua, lua de foice, primavera lua. Porém, cada uma se distingue da outra a partir das ressonâncias de sua luz no homem que a contempla. De forma análoga, o horizonte é movido por distintas determinações do vento: vento de candura, sensual; vento na calçada, que assovia; embalo do vento; o vento nas folhas secas; vento de outono; o vento que já sopra fino. Assim, a imagem poética acaba por escalar o vento como autor demudanças tanto na natureza quanto no campo sensorial, pois é capaz de sacudir as folhas do buritizal e intensicar o frio das madrugadas chuvosas e também de agir como uma espécie de lapidação da alma e do subsequente autoencontro, do compreender o mundo e o ser por esse balanço, ora brisa leve, ora tormenta incisiva. A timely reassessment of some of the most daring projects of abstraction from South America. Emphasizing the open-ended and self-critical nature of the projects of abstraction in South America from the 1930s through the mid-1960s, this important new volume focuses on the artistic practices of Joaquín Torres-García, Tomás Maldonado, Alejandro Otero, and Lygia Clark. Megan A. Sullivan positions the adoption of modernist abstraction by South American artists as part of a larger critique of the economic and social transformations caused by Latin America’s state-led programs of rapid industrialization. Sullivan thoughtfully explores the diverse ways this skepticism of modernization and social and political change was expressed. Ultimately, the book makes it clear that abstraction in South America was understood not as an artistic style to be followed but as a means to imagine a universalist mode of art, a catalyst for individual and collective agency, and a way to express a vision of a better future for South American society.
