Toilet training cats is possible. The toilet trained cats you see in videos are real, but for each one who succeeded, a lot failed. The sad truth is that many of those who failed became unclean. Do you wonder what are your real chances of succeeding in toilet training your cats? Imagine you are seeing videos of successful toilet-trained cats. Then, you read reviews about cat toilet training kits saying it works. If you try a cat toilet training system and fail, wouldn’t you feel bad about it? What I saw made me worry that cat owners would try this without the necessary information to succeed, which would inevitably produce unclean cats. I then searched for books on the subject. What I found got me even more concerned. Knowing that uncleanliness is the main reason for cats being abandoned, I felt the urge to intervene. What bothers me is that the procedure they use in books and videos still has the same flaws as the one I first used, back in the eighties. Besides, cat toilet training kits are inconvenient and produce a new set of problems. What I present in TOWARD ZERO WASTE CATS II is a new improved method: • I discuss everything to consider to reduce the risk of problems. • I present specific strategies to prevent inappropriate elimination. • I explain my unique method to ensure that the cat recognizes the toilet as "the right place to go." • I describe my strategy to guide the cat to place himself properly on the seat. • I removed unnecessary, error-prone steps other methods have. • I reorder the steps so that when he moves to the real toilet, the cat knows how to pee and poo right into the bowl without making any accidents on the seat. • There is no cat toilet training kit to remove from the seat and reinstall to allow people to use the toilet. • No litter grain will ever fall into the toilet bowl. • My method allows for a much smoother progression in learning than any of the cat toilet training systems available. There is also an important section on various techniques I have developed to properly guide cats when introducing changes in their litter habits. I consider this information so fundamental that I ask you not to buy this book unless you agree to read those sections before you start a transition toward a water litter and/or the human toilet. I hope you agree there is no point in trying to change your cat's litter habits if you are not willing, first and foremost, to comply with what your cat needs to be satisfied and stay clean. On the other hand, should you take the time to understand the rules, you'll realize how wide the possibilities are. You'll figure it's just a little about the elimination place itself (its look, size, material, ...) and a lot about respectful transition guidance while keeping the place safe and clean. Because cats are such smart fellows! Questions and answers: Q: With Claude Bois’s cat toilet training method, what do I need? A: You will need some cardboard (or any similar product), a litter box, a toilet seat, a cork stopper (or a similar product), and some strong tape. If you can drill holes, you will also need 2 screws, 2 flat o-rings, and a small piece of wood. If you can't drill holes, you can use some more strong tape instead. You will also need a set of three bowls (ceramic, glass, or plastic). Q: What if I only want to train my cat to use a water litter? A: You will need the same as above; note that you will need to drill two holes. Alternatively, you can use a plastic box with a cover; you will need to cut a large hole in the cover with a precision knife (Exacto). Another option, if you are handy, is to make a wooden box with a cover and hinges; you will need to paint or varnish it (with a low COV product). In all cases, you still need three bowls for the training. Q: My cat already has a litter box, do I need to buy a second litter box? A: No, you can simply modify the litter box your cat is currently using. Just make sure you have all that you need ready before you start; it should take you less than an hour to transform it. Also, if you change your mind, the litter box will still be usable as before (i.e. with traditional litter grains or pellets). In the book, I explain all the physical requirements and you get to understand why it is so. As a result, you will probably be able to find in your home, or in a second-hand store, all that you need. Q: What are my real chances of success? A: With only the method presented in videos and other books, or with one of the cat toilet training kits available, I estimate it around one out of five. If you follow my method, you will be able to determine if cat toilet training is appropriate in your situation or if you should go for water litter training only. Given you choose accordingly, I am confident that you have at least four chances out of five to succeed.
