"Estos reinos están en paz, y ofrecen mucho amor al Rey, mi señor, y a mí. Pasamos el tiempo en un festival continuo", le contaba la reina Cristina en una carta a su padre. Catalina no podía adivinar que ese matrimonio provocaría el cisma de la Iglesia. Feliz en los primeros tiempos, Catalina por su saber y su caridad se ganó el respeto de la corte y del pueblo. Y para Enrique VIII fue la "consorte más querida y amada". Pero sus desdichas comenzaron con los embarazos. De seis sólo sobrevivió su hija María. Y nunca llegó el ansiado heredero. Rechazada por su esposo, sumida en la soledad pero firme en sus convicciones, luchó por los derechos de su amada hija. Tras años de sufrimiento murió el 7 de enero de 1536. Y en sus últimas plegarias pedía: "Dios mío, perdónalo tú a Enrique, porque yo no puedo, y no es poco lo que viene de él."
