Excerpt from Catalogus Hymenopterorum Hucusque Descriptorum Systematicus Et Synonymicus, Vol. 3: Trigonalidae, Megalyridae, Stephanidae, Ichneumonidae, Agriotypidae, Evaniidae, Pelecinidae Was den Catalog selbst anlangt, so muss ich vor Allem hervorheben, dass derselbe lediglich nur die Aufgabe hat, den Wissensstand der bis heute beschriebenen hymenopteren-arten zu bieten. Selbst beim besten Willen und beim objecfivsten Studium war es nur in wenigen Fallen moglich und statthafi, fiir diesen Zweck zunachst Kritik zu uben und dadurch gewissermaen einer Monographie vorzugreifen. Wo es aber notig erschien, trotzdem kritische Bemerkungen zu machen, erschien es mir zweckdien lich, dieselben separat unter dem Titel "hymenopterologische Notizen in der Wiener entamologischen Zeitung klarzulegen. Ih'ir die richtige Begrenzung der Gattungen, Rassen (stirps) und Arten, fiir die Stellung derselben im Systeme, fur die richtige Einordnung gewisser Arten in eine bestimmte Gattung, fiir die Auslasmng oder Zufiehung gewisser Synonym u. S. W. Darf und muss ich die vor mir arbeitenden Forscher verantwortlich machen, denn fur gewisse Fragen entziehen sich deren Beschreibungen und Abbildungen ebenso, wie deren "typen unzugang lich oder unzulanglich sind. Dass man aber trotzdem die Arbeiten der alteren Autoren (linne, Fabricius, Schrank u. S. W.) und die mit ihnen zusammenhangende Tradition etwas freier beurteilen muss, als jene der neueren, steht mir fest, um so mehr, als ja sonst die ganze Arbeitsleistung der "vater der Entomologie in tausende von Zweifeln und schlielich in Nichts zusammensinken wurde. Die Familien, Subfamilien und Genera sind systematisch und zwar in aufsteigender Reihenfolge angeordnet; bei den Tenthrediniden mit Cimhex beginnend, steigen sie, soweit dieser Ausdruck benutzt werden darf zu den Apiden resp. Zur Gattung Apis hinan; die neu aufgestellten Genera wurden nach Thunlichkeit conform den dort gemachten Angaben eingereiht; wo aber in der Originalbeschrei bung Angaben uber ihre Stellung fehlen, durfte freilich manchesmal ohne Verschulden ein Versto in der Einreihung untergelaufen sein.
