A documentary history that studies the series of laws passed by the US Congress to establish the federal immigration and naturalization policies which have been put into effect since the founding of the nation--legislation which has been designed increasingly to restrict and curtail immigration, and which has been particularly harsh on Asian immigrants since its inception. Complete chapters are devoted to each major piece of legislation from the Reconstruction era to the Immigration Act of 1965. Documents attached to the end of each essay treat particular topics related to it. Annotation copyright by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

'It's not OK' is a collection of portraits of Asian women caught in the struggle for human rights in their communities, some willingly, others forced by circumstances. Each is a testimony to the courage and determination of these women. The title, 'It's not OK,' comes from the public cry by one of them, in court, as she heard that her husband's sentence had been extended by eight years. The second edition includes an additional seven, illustrated portraits of Myanmar, Uyghur, Tibetan, Chinese, Vietnamese,Lao and, Korean women. Each portrait selected by RFA's nine language services is based on RFA reporting and interviews over the years, in addition to other sources. The e-book also includes multimedia content, including video, graphics, and illustrations, The women featured in this second edition are: from China, Gao Yu, a veteran journalist, Ding Zilin, a Tiananmen mother, and Jiao Xia, the wife of jailed investigative journalist Qi Chonghuai; from Vietnam, Tran Thi Nga and Do Thi Minh Hanh, two labor activists; from Myanmar, Susanna Hla Hla Soe, a peace activist, Zin Mar Aung, a former political prisoner who helps other recently released prisoners; from Cambodia, Yorm Bopha and Tep Vanny, land rights activists; from Korea, Park Sun-Young, a politician, and Lee Ae Ran, the first North Korean defector to obtain a doctoral degree who helps other defectors in South Korea; from Laos, Sivanxia Phommalath, a vegetable seller turned activist, and Ng Shui Meng, wife of missing Lao activist Sombath Somphone; from China's Tibetan regions, Dechen Pemba who publishes Tibetan writers online and Rinchen Khandro Choegyal, who supports overseas Tibetans and nuns in India; and from China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Nurungul Tohti and and Patigul Ghulam, both jailed several times for demanding justice for their sons.

Caught in the Middle was born from the thought of how we are caught between society, the day to day challenges, temptations and doing what is right according to our Maker, God. These are my observations of how we have forgotten that with a little faith and a lot of love, we can overcome some of life's most devastating pains.

The Heart Of Act written by Robyn D. Walser and has been published by New Harbinger Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-01 with Psychology categories.

In The Heart of ACT, renowned acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) trainer Robyn Walser explores ACT as a process-based therapy incorporating interpersonal, intrapersonal, and overarching and ongoing processes, as well as the integration of six core components of psychological flexibility to connect clinicians to the dynamic and relational implementation of ACT. Engaging clinical scenarios, therapeutic insights, and supervision dialogues are offered to help clinicians move beyond their conceptual understanding of ACT principles to master the nuances of the therapeutic relationship at the heart of ACT. Using the tips and strategies in this professional guide, you’ll develop a flexible, grounded, and client-centered practice. With this comprehensive resource, you’ll learn to cultivate an organic, process-driven practice, grounded in the heart of the therapeutic relationship and responsive to clients in the moment. The Heart of ACT is designed to mimic the supervision experience by presenting material in thought-provoking chapters grounded in real-life clinical situations and challenges. In the book, you’ll also find supervision dialogues inspired by Walser's work with her supervisees, Carlton Coulter and Manuela O’Connell. Carlton and Manuela comment and ask questions related to the material in the book and their own ACT learning process. These are then addressed by Walser in a dialogue designed to assist clinicians in connecting to the material. These sections mimic the helpful mentoring process of one-on-one training and supervision, and offer insights into specific therapeutic challenges that can unfold in structured conversation. As the applications of ACT grow, so does the need for up-to-date professional resources. Unlike many advanced ACT books that focus on procedures and techniques, The Heart of ACT focuses on the heart of the therapeutic relationship, as well as the “soft skills” that are difficult to describe, but which often mark the difference between a merely good clinician and an excellent one. If you’re looking to take your ACT delivery to a new, exciting level, this book is a must-have addition to your professional library.
