Cappadocia, a province in central Turkey, offers the traveler a startling rockscape whose cones, pleats, and folds conceal hundreds of monasteries and churches carved from the soft, porous "tuff" and used by Christian communities over nearly two millennia for shelter, burial, and sanctuary. This region in the Turkish hinterland is recognized as one of the centers of Byzantine mural painting. However, numerous hermitages, monasteries, and independent chapels dating from the seventh century onward reveal it also as one of the most concentrated areas of Eastern monasticism. This book serves a double purpose: it provides a thorough and lucid introduction to the rockcut churches and monasteries and their painted decorations, while it critically examines current scholarship on the monastic environment of Byzantine Cappadocia--particularly in regard to the architecture, which has been generally neglected by art historians.Scooped out rather than constructed, this anonymous architecture has its own unique appeal. Kostof writes: "The Cappadocian carver-architect was not inhibited... by statics or the nature of materials. His structure stood, a monolith, before he started to work on it. And he could cut into this monolith quickly, effortlessly. It might take a single man about a month to carve out a large room of two to three thousand cubic feet. Loads and thrusts were negligible. One was free to try any structural symbol with little concern for structural safety. Cupolas could bubble from flat ceilings, or be placed over square bays by means of the most cavalier transition elemenis. No shape need be perfect: extemporaneous geometry is everywhere the rule. Wall lines sag, one half of an arch doesn't quite match the other, carefree deviations, here and there, mark the general outline of the building."Following an account of the region, its environmental, political, and religious history, the author discusses in detail the building types and painting programs in the context of their creation--answering such questions as what was the nature of monasticism in Cappadocia, and who were the builders, the artists, their patrons? The author was born and educated in Turkey, and his personal knowledge of the monuments is a convincing factor in his handling of chronological and stylistic uncertainties. Throughout, Kostof's mind's eye never leaves the total environment, observing the inseparability of landscape, buildings, paintings, and the ritual that informs them.

It would take more than two people to drag me into a cave, cistern, pit, or anything enclosed underground. This is not a challenge but rather a caution. Never having been inside a cave, this is all speculation, but I believe caves to be dark, damp, hazardous, and snaky. There are many caves mentioned in the Bible, along with tombs, cisterns, clefts, strongholds, and various places to hide or be imprisoned. I have extracted a few of these from the Word of God for your enjoyment and enlightenment and have put a different twist on a few. I have not changed the Scripture but have simply used another view of caved in. We can be caved in by actual caves, tombs, graves, or any other enclosed structures. Another kind of caved in is emotional, meaning that you have been mentally crushed by hurt, insults, or rejection, or a physical cave-in, like skidding on black ice or perhaps having major surgery. Self-inflicted wounds like what Adam and Eve experienced can cause devastating cave-ins. We are not expected to bring ourselves out of caves like graves or tombs, but we can and should call on God to bring us out of emotional, physical, and spiritual caves just as easily as He brought Lazarus out of his tomb after he had been dead for four days. This book is filled with diverse caves and cave-ins. Because of the numerous short stories, there is no index, nor is the book divided into chapters. So just jump in anywhere, settle in for some easy, Scripture-included reading, and look for your cave and a way out. Allow the touch of the Masters hand.

The Cave Of Treasures written by St. Ephrem the Syrian and has been published by Dalcassian Publishing Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Religion categories.

This text is attributed to Ephrem Syrus, who was born at Nisibis soon after AD 306 and died in 373, but it is now generally believed that its current form is 6th century or newer. The assertion that the Cave of Treasures was written in the 4th century is supported by the general contents of the work. These reproduce Ephrem's peculiar methods of exegesis and supply many examples of his methods in religious argument, with which we are familiar from his other writings. His pride in the antiquity of the Syriac language also appears in this work. That it was written in Mesopotamia by a Syrian, there is no doubt, and if Ephrem was not the original author, or perhaps later editor, belonged to the school of Ephrem. The oldest Christian work on the history of God's dealing with man from Adam to Christ is probably the anonymous Conflict of Adam and Eve with Satan, which, in its original form, is from the 5th or 6th century AD. The writer of the Cave of Treasures borrowed largely from the Conflict of Adam and Eve, or shared a common source with it.

A guide for any man to deal effectively with the difficulties and assaults waged against him in this life. Through no fault of his own, King David of Israel lost all of his support systems, and even his dignity. He responded by escaping to the cave of Adullam. There he met with God and was transformed, along with the four hundred beleaguered men who joined him there. He left us a record of his struggles and triumphs in certain Psalms composed in the time of his cave-dwelling days. There was a clear pattern in the habits of David and those men that can build us up today, so that we might become the masculine wall of security for the people in our day, that they were said to have been in theirs. Jeff Voth has proven the positive impact of these habits in the lives of men in his doctoral thesis, and communicates these truths in clear language. Become a mighty man of God. Become a Caveman.

Prophet, Come Out of Your Cave dives headfirst into the real-world struggles and purpose of those that feel they are called to be God's chosen prophets. In a world so tainted by sin and destruction by the enemy attacking and chasing prophets out of the body of Christ, Prophet Come Out of Your Cave reveals the schemes and strategies that Satan uses to silence God's prophets. "Satan and his demons will use any weapon they can get their hands on to discourage, stop, or even destroy the prophet. If he cannot stop the prophet from doing God's work, he will even resort to setting the prophet up to fall into sin or discredit their ministry somehow. He often uses addictions, offenses, rejection, abandonment, threats, misunderstandings, and divisions to destroy the prophet." "God is calling His prophets out of their caves. He is calling His prophets to take their positions." Praise for Prophet Come Out of Your Cave: "Michael Bacon's book, Prophet Come Out of Your Cave, is a very timely book. It is a book that I totally recommend for the Body of Christ, especially those involved in the five-fold ministry or in intercession. I would encourage you to read with spiritual ears and eyes and not from a denominational filter. I believe this book will awaken hearts to move from the old wineskin to a new wineskin. Whenever you have a move of the Holy Spirit, you will always have counterfeits appear; but God is raising up His true tribe that will be taught, trained and released. Michael Bacon has a heart for the body of Christ to be transformed and renewed in wisdom and revelation." -Rev. Solomon J. Buckley, Overseer/Director of Fresh Wind International Missions Base
