EXTRAIT DE Premier dimanche de mars Fête des grands-mères C’est une gentille petite fille, avec deux nattes bien serrées qui pendent sur ses épaules et des yeux noirs un peu trop graves pour son âge. À ses parents, on dit : « Oh, mais qu’elle est sage cette petite, et tellement raisonnable ! » Et, parce qu’elle lit toute la journée, on ajoute : « Elle doit être très intelligente. » Je ne sais pas si elle est très intelligente mais c’est vrai qu’elle a appris à lire toute seule, en recopiant les lignes du journal austère et sans image que rapporte son père, le soir, et qui s’appelle Le Monde. C’est un drôle de titre, pour un journal noir tout plat, de porter le même nom qu’une boule bleue toute ronde. Le dimanche midi, ses grands-parents viennent déjeuner à la maison. C’est la tradition, ça ne se discute pas. On mange du poulet avec des pommes de terre et un légume vert qui change chaque semaine parce que c’est bon pour la santé. Eux, ils apportent le dessert, un vrai gâteau de pâtissier, dans un carton rose avec de la ficelle dorée. Après le déjeuner, Grand-Père va s’allonger parce qu’il est vieux, et Grand-Mère s’ennuie un peu. Alors elle appelle la petite auprès d’elle et demande : « Tu ne voudrais pas me lire une histoire ? J’aime bien entendre ta voix. » Et comme la gamine est fière de savoir déjà lire, elle va chercher un livre - mettons, au hasard, les Contes des mille et une nuits - et elle lui lit une histoire. À PROPOS DE L'AUTEUR Cécile Delacroix est née à Paris à la fi n du siècle dernier. Danseuse classique contrariée, pianiste laborieuse, elle s’est fi nalement résignée à une carrière de juriste, sans pour autant perdre de vue son goût pour la créativité ou renoncer à ses ambitions artistiques. C’est en s’inspirant de sa vie mais aussi de celle de ses soeurs, de ses consoeurs, de ses amies qu’elle a écrit ces chroniques, pour le simple plaisir de réinventer des histoires de tous les jours.
