When the truths set forth in this book were revealed to me by the Master they deeply affected my life, and some of them have been used by me in my sermons and addresses in Europe, America, Africa, Australia, and Asia. At the request of many friends I have now gathered them together in this little book, and though it is possible that there are defects in setting them forth, I am sure that those who read them with prayer and an unprejudiced mind will benefit from them as I have. Sundar Singh was born into a Sikh family. His mother took him to sit at the feet of a sadhu while also sending him to Ewing Christian High School. Upon her death when he was fourteen he took out his anger on missionaries, persecuted Christian converts, and ridiculed their faith. Sundar resolved to kill himself but had a vision of Jesus and resolved to follow Christ. He was then denounced by his father and his brother attempted to poison him.

Many people are looking for a fresh way to read the Bible, not as a text to be mastered, but as a story to enter into and a lifestyle to pursue. In this unique Bible, the foremost names in Christian spirituality and biblical scholarship come together to provide a Bible that rediscovers Scripture as living text, rich with insights into how to live our lives more intimately with God. Spearheaded by bestselling authors Richard J. Foster (Celebration of Discipline) and Dallas Willard (The Divine Conspiracy), The Renovaré Spiritual Formation Bible introduces the concept of the "with-God life," a model for seeing the whole of Scripture as the unfolding story of God's plan for our loving relationship with the Creator. This central theme weaves throughout the essays, introductions, notes, and exercises, powerfully revealing how God is present to his people today and throughout history. Yet our relationship with God should not be passive. Concrete practices—Spiritual Disciplines—have been used throughout church history to guide disciples of Jesus. This Bible integrates the Spiritual Disciplines into the Christian life by showing how they are central to the Bible's teachings and stories. Abraham and Ruth, Moses and Deborah, Jesus and the disciples all provide amazing examples of the life-changing power of prayer, worship, fasting, celebration, and many other Spiritual Disciplines. Scripture thus becomes a primary means for the discovery, instruction, and practice of these disciplines as well as a tool for spiritual formation. Combining the highest possible biblical scholarship with the deepest possible heart devotion, this new Bible project seeks to nourish inner transformation by unlocking and revealing the profound resources within Scripture for changing our hearts and characters and bringing them in line with what God wants for our lives. The Renovaré Spiritual Formation Bible will redefine what the Bible means for Christian discipleship.

Drawing on both Indian and U.S. sources, Dr. Mahendra uncovers facts and sets forth insights that make this book timely and valuable for the church today, not only in India and America but around the world....This is a book on missiology grounded in biography... I am happy to commend this thoroughly researched new contribution to mission history and theology. - Howard A. Snyder, Ph.D. International Representative, Manchester Wesley Research Centre It is my privilege to express my profound appreciation for this excellent study and reflection on the life and ministry of Ernest and Phebe Ward by Dr. Shivraj Mahendra... This is no mere "period study" for an armchair historian. This is a compelling invitation to enter into the life and work of one of the most compelling and little-known pioneer missionaries of the time... you will leave this study inspired and challenged. - Timothy C. Tennent, Ph.D. President and Professor of World Christianity, Asbury Theological Seminary A definitive study of Ernest and Phebe Ward's lives and ministry in Central India has been long overdue and Dr. Shivraj Mahendra has now made a significant contribution to fill the gap. Dr. Mahendra's research and perceptions are enriched and made more meaningful by his own spiritual and cultural roots in the very regions where Ernest and Phebe Ward introduced the gospel 140 years ago. - Rev. David Yardy Free Methodist Missionary in Asia for 38 years

Streams Of Living Water written by Richard Foster and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-07 with Religion categories.

In this landmark work, Richard Foster examines the 'streams of living water' - the six dimensions of faith and practice - that have defined Christian tradition around the world and down the centuries. In this inspiring book he looks at: - the Contemplative tradition - or the prayer-filled life - the Holiness tradition - or the virtuous life - the Charismatic tradition - or the Spirit-empowered life - the Social Justice tradition - or the compassionate life - the Evangelical tradition - or the word-centred life - the Incarnational tradition - or the sacramental life Foster's celebration of the spiritual life incorporates history's most significant Christian figures and movements and argues for a rich, well-rounded faith, free of constricting labels.
