Includes CD of the broadcasts (2-disc set) Book URL: https://www.areditions.com/rr/rrotm/otm010.html The ethnomusicologist Robert Lachmann (1892¿1939) wrote and presented twelve radio programs entitled Oriental Music, which were transmitted by the Palestine Broadcasting Service between November 1936 and April 1937. The programs, which formed part of Lachmann¿s pioneering project to establish an ¿Oriental music archive¿ at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, included live performances of traditional music representing the different ethnic and religious communities of Palestine, performances which were simultaneously recorded onto metal disc. This edition presents Lachmann¿s scripts with musical transcriptions of performances, transcriptions and translations of the sung texts, and selected digitally restored musical recordings (provided on the accompanying set of compact discs). The introduction and editorial commentaries explore Lachmann¿s radio lectures as they relate to his body of research on ¿Oriental music¿ and to wider concerns of scholarship, politics, and ideology. This edition will appeal to scholars of Middle Eastern cultural history and ethnomusicology, and especially to those interested in the history of sound archives, recording and broadcasting, the intellectual history of ethnomusicology, and the history, theory, and aesthetics of Middle Eastern music.

Musical Creativity written by Irène Deliège and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-10-16 with Music categories.

This collection initiates a resolutely interdisciplinary research dynamic specifically concerning musical creativity. Creativity is one of the most challenging issues currently facing scientific psychology and its study has been relatively rare in the cognitive sciences, especially in artificial intelligence. This book will address the need for a coherent and thorough exploration. Musical Creativity: Multidisciplinary Research in Theory and Practice comprises seven sections, each viewing musical creativity from a different scientific vantage point, from the philosophy of computer modelling, through music education, interpretation, neuroscience, and music therapy, to experimental psychology. Each section contains discussions by eminent international specialists of the issues raised, and the book concludes with a postlude discussing how we can understand creativity in the work of eminent composer, Jonathan Harvey. This unique volume presents an up-to-date snapshot of the scientific study of musical creativity, in conjunction with ESCOM (the European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music). Describing many of the different aspects of musical creativity and their study, it will form a useful springboard for further such study in future years, and will be of interest to academics and practitioners in music, psychology, cognitive science, artificial intelligence, neuroscience and other fields concerning the study of human cognition in this most human of behaviours.

A giant in the development of American musicology, Charles Seeger was a scholar- musician active in practically all areas of musical endeavor. This wide-ranging collection investigates Seeger's writings on music, musical research, and the responsibility of the musician and musicologist to society. A social activist who played a leadership role in the Composers Collective in 1930s New York and in the founding of scholarly organizations including the American Musicological Society and the Society for Ethnomusicology, Seeger was a philosopher as well as a builder. His ideas about music and musicology, incorporating perspectives as wide-ranging as physics, philosophy, and anthropology, set the stage for the rise of modern ethnomusicology. Key to the establishment of formal musical scholarship in the United States, Seeger was also vitally interested in nurturing uniquely American musical forms and in bridging the gap between academia and the world outside the ivory tower. By presenting new views of Seeger's thought, incorporating in particular often neglected early writings, Understanding Charles Seeger, Pioneer in American Musicology provides a unique perspective on intellectual history in twentieth- century America

The Music Of Chou Wen Chung written by EricC. Lai and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-05 with Music categories.

Chou Wen-chung is one of the most influential musical figures of our time. His rich cultural background, his studies with Edgard Var, and his interest in the genuine rapport between Eastern and Western musical traditions have been the major influences on his career. Although he is active in various artistic and cultural circles that include scholarship, education and cultural preservation, his major calling has always been composition. As a composer, Chou has created a group of works whose stylistic innovation and technical profundity are distinctive among composers of his generation. His music, which has received critical acclaim around the globe, documents his creative journey, especially in the realization of re-merger - the fusion of Eastern and Western music that has become a new mainstream in art music. Through extensive focus on sketch study, Eric Lai examines Chou's music to contribute to an understanding of his aesthetic orientation, his compositional technique, his role in the development of new music, and his influence upon the younger generation of composers.
