with some 600 photos and 4000 drawings and plans, the Timber Construction Manual is a comprehensive and indispensable reference work in the specialist literature on timber. It looks at all types of timber and timber materials, also presenting detailed information on the current norms and standards. Chapters cover the basic principles of working with timber, providing detailed information on subjects such as heat, noise insulation, fire protection treatment. The significance of timber with particular reference to ecology is also investigated. Timber as a load-bearing material is considered, and topics such as new methods of joining, transport and montage are documented. The second part of the volume presents a large number of built examples which feature some "classic" structures but focus chiefly on more recent buildings. The spectrum presented ranges from heavy-load bridges to multi-storey residential buildings. The second part of the examples looks specifically at topics such as facades, building skins etc.

Exhaustive, authoritative and comprehensive, using 160 statistical tables, this book addresses the fundamental structure of materials and remediation, and looks at the properties of water and water-induced degradation and deterioration, with chapters on moisture effects in buildings and materials, corrosion theory and metal protection. The authors explain the behaviour of materials in fires, fundamental fire resistance principles and techniques, calculation of flame temperatures, and the removal of heat by nitrogen and other combustion products. It addresses properties performance, degradation of masonry, plastics, adhesives, sealants, timber, glass and fibre composites, metals and alloy elements. Phase diagrams show cooling curves and structure for metals and alloys. Concrete technology is developed in relation to degradation, electro-potential mapping and cathodic protection of reinforced concrete. The book is fully updated to current British and European standards. The statistical classification system for forest products enables the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of high-quality global data on forest products by ensuring that information is comparable across countries. FAO and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) published the first version of the Classification of forest products (CFP) in 1973. Two updates have since been published, in 1979 and in 1981. Over time, the structure of the forest industry has shifted toward higher value products with complex value chains and increasingly diverse end-uses. This fourth revision covers the current spectrum of primary and secondary wood and paper products: wood taken from forests or from trees outside forests; bark and cork; charcoal; wood and wood-based materials resulting from the first processing of wood available from forest operations (e.g. sawnwood, railway sleepers, veneer sheets, wood pulp and wood residues); materials resulting from the further processing of some of these materials (e.g. wood-based panels, paper and paperboard); and recovered paper and recoverable wood products. Statistical standards are a foundation of internationally comparable statistics. This statistical classification system for forest products enables the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of high-quality global data on forest products, including production, trade, and production capacity. It enables information that is comparable across countries, supports the aggregation and disaggregation of datasets in meaningful ways, and enables data with the insight to drive policymaking and decision-making.
