When life takes an unexpected turn that leaves you reeling, sometimes you have to remind yourself to just breathe. But God is closer than the air you breathe. Grounded in scripture and Christian tradition, Sacred Breath walks you through the practice of Centering Prayer and helps you breathe in deeply the presence of God. Learn how to present yourself to God in silence twice a day without any agenda. Forty days of practical, encouraging meditations will help you get started in the rich experience of living in the awareness of God's love. The first 10 readings focus on receiving God's love, the second 10 on obstacles to our relationship with God, and the last 20 on the rhythm of receiving and giving in our walk with God. Sacred Breath includes scriptures, breathing exercises, and an outline for group meetings. For an introduction to Centering Prayer, try Forty Days to a Closer Walk with God, also by J. "This project examined the unique spiritual care needs of patients who are intubated in the intensive care unit and therefore unable to participate in spiritual care conversations. Based on previous studies, this project proposed a three-part spiritual care plan to address these particular needs. The first intervention, directed at the patient, provided the patient an opportunity to express their own needs through a spiritual care communication board, when appropriate. The second intervention invited the patient’s family to share stories of the patient, describing who they are as a person and what is important to them. The third intervention facilitated communication between the patient’s family and the medical providers by assessing the family’s unanswered questions and needs. Each of these interventions built on theology of silence which views silence as a vital partner in the spiritual care intervention rather than an obstacle to be overcome or a tool to be used. Instead, here silence serves to unite strangers and allow them to recognize the breath of God in one another. Through the recognition of God’s breath in each other, the spiritual care provider, patient, and family are all brought to the hope of healing in God’s presence. The project concluded that the spiritual care communication board was not helpful in this setting. While families at times expressed appreciation for the opportunity to share stories and identify their loved one as a person, they overall expressed greater appreciation for the opportunity to express their questions and concerns even when the spiritual care provider did nothing other than pass their concerns on to the medical providers." -- Leaf [ii].

It happens even if we don't want it to, and even if we doubt it can. There is a lesson of the science of faith that is at work within the core of every soul. We must continually be "Centered on Majesty" by diligently pursuing Him and living a life that recognizes that Jesus Christ is our source and our stability.
