Since the 1940s, the short story has established itself as a very popular literary form in modern Indonesian literature. This volume brings together fifteen Indonesian stories written in the 1980s and early 1990s by writers drawn from different parts of the archipelago. Boasting settings ranging from rural villages to urban slums and dealing with issues affecting the lives of the rich and powerful as well as those of the poor and powerless, the stories in this collection present a variety of characters and themes representative of the diversity of Indonesia itself. Many of the stories are characterized by realism, some are forays into fantasy, but almost all are generated by conflict - literal or figurative - within an individual, between individuals, or between individuals and society.

Topology written by Robert Geroch and has been published by Minkowski Institute Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-21 with Mathematics categories.

This book is about the branch of mathematics called topology. But its larger purpose is to illustrate how mathematics works: The interplay between intuition on the one hand and a pure mathematical formulation on the other. Thus, we develop the axioms for a topological space, formulate definitions within the context of those axioms and actually prove theorems from the axioms. But underlying all this is our intuition about topology. It is this intuition that guides and gives "meaning" to the definitions we make and to the theorems we prove. No prior knowledge of mathematics is assumed. In fact, these were originally the notes for a course for freshman non-scientists. This book, including over 100 figures and problem sets with solutions, should be of interest to those who would like to understand what mathematics is all about, as well as those who would like to learn about the this important branch of mathematics.

Classical Thought written by Terence Irwin and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with Literary Collections categories.

Spanning over a thousand years from Homer to Saint Augustine, Classical Thought encompasses a vast range of material in succinct style, while remaining clear and lucid even to those with no philosophical or Classical background The major philosophers and philosophical schools are examined---the Presocratics, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Stoicism, Epicureanism, Neoplatonism; but other important thinkers, such as Greek tragedians, historians, medical writers, and early Christian writers, are also discussed. The emphasis is naturally on questions of philosophical interest (although the literary and historical background to Classical philosophy is not ignored), and again the scope is broad---ethics, the theory of knowledge, philosophy of mind, philosophical theology. All this is presented in a fully integrated, highly readable text which covers may of the most important areas of ancient thought and in which stress is laid on the variety and continuity of philosophical thinking after Aristotle.

Socrates A Guide For The Perplexed written by Sara Ahbel-Rappe and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-06-30 with Philosophy categories.

Socrates is regarded as the founder of Western philosophical inquiry. Yet he left no writings and claimed to know 'nothing fine or worthy.' he spent his life perplexing those who encountered him and is as important and perplexing now as he was 2500 years ago. Drawing on the various competing sources for Socrates that are available, Socrates: A Guide for the Perplexed guides the reader through the main themes and ideas of Socrates' thought. Taking into account the puzzles surrounding his trial and death, the philosophical methods and ethical positions associated with him, and his lasting influence, Sara Ahbel-Rappe presents a concise and accessible introduction. She concludes by suggesting that it is in fact the Socratic insistence on self-knowledge that makes Socrates at once so pivotal and so elusive for the student of philosophy.
