Copyright is generally vested either in `the work' or in `the author'. Authorship as the basis of copyright is the most common in modern copyright laws. While `the author' is generally equated with the `creator', this is not true in every situation. This study by Jacqueline Seignette explores cases in which copyright and creatorship do not coincide. She focuses on the situation in three jurisdictions: The Netherlands, Germany and The United States. In Germany the importance of creatorship for copyrights is the strongest while in US the importance of creatorship in copyright law is less pronounced. The Netherlands occupies a middle position with respect to the value which is attached to the Creator Doctrine. An illustration of the different concepts of authorship is the fact that in American law industrial and technical adaptations and uses of works of art fall under the copyright regime while in the German case such products may have sui generis rights, not copyrights. According to the author, `the American, Dutch and German copyright laws provide an interesting cross-section of what legislation on copyright ownership at the end of the twentieth century may look like'.

The need to position Christianity in relation to other religions, most notably Judaism and Islam, has brought about a renewed interest in the theme of creation, which has been off the theological agenda for much of the 20th century. Environmentalists, biologists, feminists and process theologians have all registered concerns, from their different perspectives, about the way in which the traditional doctrine of creation characterizes the relationship between the cosmos and its creator. Furthermore, the hoilism of the New Age and its resonance with eastern patterns of thought seems to offer something radically different from the Judaeo-Christian understanding of the creation. It is in the light of these concerns that the author argues for the doctrine of creation as a distictively Christian article of faith. By recognizing at the the same time that criticisms which have been made of its traditional formulations must be properly acknowledged and accommodated, the author is able to use the best insights from secular disciples to construct a theology of creation which is responsible.

This book examines the New Testament teaching that Christ was the one through whom God made the world. While scholars usually interpret this doctrine as arising from the equation of Jesus and the Wisdom of God, Sean McDonough argues that it had its roots in the church's memories of Jesus' miracles. These memories, coupled with the experience of spiritual renewal in the early church, established Jesus as the definitive agent of God's new creation in the New Testament writings and the teachings of the Early Church. Following the logic that 'the end is like the beginning' Christ was taken to be the agent of primal creation. This insight was developed in light of Old Testament creation texts, viewed from within a 'messianic matrix' of interpretation. God gives his Word, his Spirit, and his Wisdom to his Messiah from the very beginning; and the Messiah, the radiance of God's glory, establishes the cosmos in accordance with God's purposes. Creation is the beginning of messianic dominion; he rules the world he made. McDonough carefully substantiates his thesis through a detailed exegesis of the relevant New Testament texts in the context of related texts in Judaism and Greco-Roman philosophy. He concludes with a survey of the doctrine of Christ as Creator in the work of six theologians: Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Athanasius, Karl Barth, Jürgen Moltmann, and Wolfhart Pannenberg.
