This book contains the translation and commentary in English on Chanakya's famous book "Chanakya Neeti" ("Moral Principles of Chanakya"), which is originally composed in Sanskrit language by Chanakya. As per Chanakya, he composed the verses based on his understanding of the most ancient Vedic Scriptures (śruti) and based on what he has heard from his predecessor teachers (smṛti). There are 17 chapters in this book and each chapter contains around 17 to 24 Sanskrit verses. Each Sanskrit verse has Roman transliteration, English equivalents and purport in English. Chanakya was a great politician from India who lived during 370 BC to 283 BC. Even though Chanakya was the prime minister of a great King, Chandragupta Mourya, he lived humbly in a small cottage and was satisfied with bare necessities of life and he never took salary from the King. Chanakya made many uncommon feats during his lifetime, one of it is: he made a commoner into a King (Chandragupta Maurya) of a powerful state (Magadh). Chanakya was also expert in governance and politics and wrote other books on those subjects. Chanakya left this knowledge of moral principles for the benefit of future generations.
