Mangelnde Bildung sowie räumliche und soziale Isolation gehören zur Realität dieser Menschen - so auch bei den San in Namibia. Welche Rolle spielt in diesem Kontext der Ethnotourismus für die San? Kann er helfen, ihr kulturelles Erbe zu bewahren und ihre ökonomische Unabhängigkeit zu fördern, oder beschleunigt er den Ausverkauf ihrer Kultur? Der Ethnotourismus hat sich in den letzten Jahren vom Nischenprodukt zum festen Bestandteil vieler Rundreisen entwickelt. Indigene Völker sind mit ihrem kulturellen Erbe ein wesentlicher Aspekt dieser Entwicklung. Doch Unterdrückung und Vertreibung haben Traumata in vielen indigenen Gemeinschaften ausgelöst, die zu Problemen wie Alkoholismus, Gewalt und Orientierungslosigkeit geführt haben - keine besonders gute Ausgangsposition in der oftmals nur auf Gewinnmaximierung ausgerichteten Tourismusbranche. Für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung ist ein Mitspracherecht der lokalen Bevölkerung an der Tourismusentwicklung unabdingbar. Hier bietet der Community-based Tourism die Möglichkeit, die lokale Bevölkerung mehr in die Planung und Umsetzung einzubeziehen sowie an den Profiten aus dem Tourismus zu beteiligen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden zwei Beispiele des Community-based Tourism bei den San in der Kalahari betrachtet, die abseits der wichtigen Besucherattraktionen und der großen Touristenströme liegen. Hier versuchen die lokalen Gemeinschaften selbstverwaltete Ethnotourismusprojekte zu etablieren.In Anbetracht der massiven sozialen Probleme und des schlechten Bildungsniveaus stellt dies für die San eine enorme Herausforderung dar - doch es mangelt an wirtschaftli

Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Die touristischen Hauptattraktionen Perus befinden sich in ländlichen Gegenden, wo indigene Völker zu Hause sind. Diese Tatsache und die wachsende Nachfrage nach Tourismus mit Eingeborenenkontakt machen es notwendig, sich mit der Frage nach geeigneten Konzepten zu befassen. Es muss gehandelt werden, um massentouristischen Entwicklungen vorzubeugen und die eingeborene Bevölkerung zu schützen. Die indianischen Ureinwohner Nord- und Südamerikas kämpfen seit der Invasion der westlichen Welt vor über 500 Jahren für die Einhaltung ihrer Rechte. Auch heute noch werden sie enteignet, übergangen und als gesellschaftliche Randgruppen respektlos behandelt. Der Kampf gegen Ölkonzerne und Holzraubbau hält an. Ihr Leben, ihre Kultur, ihre Zukunft sind bedroht. Doch bekommen sie heute in ihrem Anliegen Unterstützung von außen. Weltweit werden sich immer mehr Menschen des kulturellen Verfalls und der schwierigen Lage der indigenen Bevölkerung auf dem amerikanischen Kontinent bewusst. In vielen Ländern wurden Organisationen gegründet, die sich als Sprachrohr der Ureinwohner verstehen und die ihre Anliegen an die Öffentlichkeit tragen. Als Beispiel für Lateinamerika ist ALASEI (Agencia Latinoamericana de Servicios Especiales de Información) zu nennen, jedoch gibt es auch viele länderübergreifende, weniger spezialisierte oder auch tourismusbezogene Nachrichtendienste wie z. B. tourism - watch. Von ihrer Arbeit profitieren vor allem die Verbände sich selbst organisierender ethnischer Gruppen, im praxisbezogenen Teil C dieser Arbeit sind es die FENAMAD und der COHARYIMA (siehe C 1.3.3). Da es für die meisten eingeborenen Völker nicht möglich sein wird, ihr Leben abseits des Einflusses der westlichen Welt in alter Tradition fortzusetzen, muss eine nachhaltige und für die Bevölkerung akzeptable Möglichkeit für ihre Zukunftsgestaltung gefunden werden. Immer mehr indigene Dorfgemeinschaften wählen Ökotourismus als alternative Entwicklungsstrategie. Viele Betroffene stehen dem jedoch skeptisch gegenüber. Anhand von zwei Projekten in der Praxis soll aufgezeigt werden, dass Ökotourismus trotz einer oft langwierigen und schwierigen Umsetzung eine nachhaltige Entwicklungsalternative für indigene Dorfgemeinschaften darstellen kann. In a world characterized by an encroaching homogeneity induced by the growth of multi-national corporations and globalization, the causes of difference accrue new levels of importance. This is as true of tourism as in many other spheres of life – and one cause of differentiation for tourism promotion is the culture of Indigenous Peoples. This offers opportunities for cultural renaissance, income generation and enhanced political empowerment, but equally there are possible costs of creating commodities out of aspects of life that previously possessed spiritual meaning. This book examines these issues from many different perspectives; from those of product design and enhancement; of the aspirations of various minority groupings; and the patterns of displacements that occur – displacements that are not simply spatial but also social and cultural. How can these changes be managed? Case studies and analysis is offered, derived from many parts of the globe including North America, Asia and Australasia. The contributors themselves have, in many instances, worked closely with groups and organizations of Indigenous Peoples and attempt to give voice to their concerns. The book is divided into various themes, each with a separate introduction and commentary. The themes are Visitor Experiences, Who manages Indigenous Cultural Tourism Product, Events and Artifacts, Conceptualisation and Aspiration. In a short final section the silences are noted – each silence representing a potential challenge for future research to build upon the notions and lessons reported in the book.
