Between the American Civil War and the outbreak of world War I, global history was transformed by two events: the United States's rise to the status of a great world power (indeed, the world's greatest economic power) and the eruption of nineteenth- and twentieth-century revolutions in Mexico, China, Russia, Cuba, the Philippines, Hawaii, Panama, Nicaragua, and elsewhere. The American Search for Opportunity traces the U.S. foreign policy between 1865 and 1913, linking these two historic trends by noting how the United States - usually thought of as antirevolutionary and embarked on a 'search for order' during this era - actually was a determinative force in helping to trigger these revolutions. Walter LaFeber argues that industrialization fuelled centralisation: Post-Civil War America remained a vast, unwieldy country of isolated, parochial communities, but the federal government and a new corporate capitalism now had the power to invade these areas and integrate them into an industrialization, railway-linked nation-state. The furious pace of economic growth in America attracted refugees from all parts of the world. Professor LaFeber describes and influx of immigration so enormous that it led to America's first exclusionary immigration act. In 1882, the United States passed legislation preventing all Chinese immigrant labour, skilled and unskilled, from entering the country for the next 10 years.

This second half or Part 2 of my memoir picks up exactly where Part 1 leaves off and takes place from the year 2000 until the present which is 2022 and details the struggles that I had & still have here in Thailand with substance abuse including becoming a full fledged meth addict in Thailand in addition to my alcoholism which had been under control from 1985 until 2000 until I started drinking again in a gogo bar in Bangkok one night when free shots of tequila were being passed around. So I found myself with a brand new drug addiction in addition to my out of control drinking, and for 20 years I experienced nothing but utter chaos in Thailand including jail 5 times. I was really living the life of a drug addict associating with Thai drug addicts only, and while I was hell bent on destroying myself, I was also fighting like hell to save my life by going to Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholic Anonymous meetings while living in Pattaya, Thailand which is known for it's decadence with bars and sex everywhere, and I almost succeeded in that destruction of myself were it not for those dynamite programs of recovery. Anyway, long story short, I'm' still living here in Pattaya and am still in that same struggle and always will be, and as of today i am clean & sober for 8 months and I am living by the motto's "Just for today." as they say in NA and "One day at a time." as they say in AA. This book contains over 200 full page color images that were taken along the way and the reason for the high price of this book, but in my opinion really make the book what it is because they put you in my shoes at that exact moment in time.

The Oss And Ho Chi Minh written by Dixee R. Bartholomew-Feis and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Some will be shocked to find out that the United States and Ho Chi Minh, our nemesis for much of the Vietnam War, were once allies. Indeed, during the last year of World War II, American spies in Indochina found themselves working closely with Ho Chi Minh and other anti-colonial factions-compelled by circumstances to fight together against the Japanese. Dixee Bartholomew-Feis reveals how this relationship emerged and operated and how it impacted Vietnam's struggle for independence. The men of General William Donovan's newly-formed Office of Strategic Services closely collaborated with communist groups in both Europe and Asia against the Axis enemies. In Vietnam, this meant that OSS officers worked with Ho Chi Minh and the Viet Minh, whose ultimate aim was to rid the region of all imperialist powers, not just the Japanese. Ho, for his part, did whatever he could to encourage the OSS's negative view of the French, who were desperate to regain their colony. Revealing details not previously known about their covert operations, Bartholomew-Feis chronicles the exploits of these allies as they developed their network of informants, sabotaged the Japanese occupation's infrastructure, conducted guerrilla operations, and searched for downed American fliers and Allied POWs. Although the OSS did not bring Ho Chi Minh to power, Bartholomew-Feis shows that its apparent support for the Viet Minh played a significant symbolic role in helping them fill the power vacuum left in the wake of Japan's surrender. Her study also hints that, had America continued to champion the anti-colonials and their quest for independence, rather than caving in to the French, we might have been spared our long and very lethal war in Vietnam. Based partly on interviews with surviving OSS agents who served in Vietnam, Bartholomew-Feis's engaging narrative and compelling insights speak to the yearnings of an oppressed people-and remind us that history does indeed make strange bedfellows.

Sean Kelly covered rebel conflicts in Africa, civil wars in Indochina, peace talks in the Middle East, and the downfall of the President of the United States in Washington. He was ambushed in Zimbabwe, and death-listed in El Salvador. But not all of his career was spent chasing chaos. He also went to the Seychelles Islands to report on the first flight of the Space Shuttle and to South Africa for the presidential campaign and election of Nelson Mandela. Between deadlines, there was time for humor, compassion, good food and wine, even romance along the way.
