This field guide, designed for troop Chaplain's Aides, Religious Emblems Coordinators, and Chaplains, is designed as a companion resource for the Scouting community. While efforts have been made to adapt worship materials for a nonsectarian environment, certain traditional content remains unaltered to honor the diversity of religions. The guide emphasizes the concept of "Duty to God," which Scouts encounter during the recitation of the Scout Oath or Promise. An oath, solemnly invoking God's presence, underscores the truthfulness of one's words and sincere commitment to fulfilling promises. The Twelfth Point of the Scout Law "A Scout is REVERENT" reinforces this duty, urging Scouts to treat all with deep respect, honor, and unwavering love. This field guide offers a wealth of resources for Scouts and leaders navigating matters of faith. Key sections include: 1. A Scout's Duty to God: Explores the foundational concept of duty to a higher power, as reflected in the Scout Oath. 2. The Unit Chaplain: Provides insights into the role of the unit chaplain within the Scouting community. 3. The Unit Chaplain's Aide: Details the responsibilities and contributions of the chaplain's aide. 4. The Religious Emblems Program: A comprehensive overview of the program designed to recognize Scouts' spiritual achievements. 5. Interfaith "Scout's Own" Service: Guidance on organizing inclusive, interfaith gatherings. 6. GRACES: A collection of mealtime blessings. 7. PRAYERS: Includes morning or opening prayers, expressions of gratitude, and interfaith prayers. 8. BENEDICTIONS: Blessings for closing ceremonies. 9. RESPONSIVE READINGS: Scout Oath and Scout Law responses. 10. SONGS: A selection of Scout-themed, traditional religious, contemporary religious, and patriotic songs. 11. DEVOTIONALS AND MEDITATIONS: Thoughtful reflections for personal growth. 12. DRAMA: Creative dramatic pieces for Scout events. All profits generated are donated to scouting.

Prepared by the Office of the Chief of Chaplains, United States Army, this handbook provides a useful guide to the beliefs and practices of a number of religious groups. It provides a useful reference, both for professionals such as airport and hospital chaplains, and for lay readers interested in a basic guide to religious groups not readily covered in other references. A specific purpose of the handbook was also to limit the amount of information provided on each group. Thus, while the information is accurate (in most instances approved by authorities from the individual groups themselves), it is by no means comprehensive. The material presented in the handbook was derived through an extensive research effort. The handbook includes 37 different group descriptions, divided into seven categories. The categories are: Christian Heritage Groups Japanese Heritage Groups Jewish Groups Indian Heritage Groups Islamic Groups Sikh Groups Other Groups Among the uniform topics covered for each group are: historical roots, origins in the U.S., number of adherents in the U.S., organizational structure, leadership and role of priesthood, who may conduct worship services, is group worship required, dietary laws or restrictions, special religious holidays, funeral and burial requirements, autopsy, cremation, medical treatment, is a priest required at the time of death, basic teachings or beliefs, and ethical practices.

Welcome, Chaplain! You are part of a ministry of ordained and laypeople that have proudly wear the Trail Life uniform. You will share your faith with youth and adults at Troop meetings and outings, but you will also: - Model Christ's love and wisdom. - Provide counselling, oversight and encouragement. - Interpret nature as a testament to God's power and goodness. That's a big job, yet remember God does not call the equipped, he equips the called. Your willingness to serve is your greatest qualification. Your willingness to learn is your second greatest. You will have support from your fellow Troop and Area leaders, an opportunity for in-person training, and this Handbook. These resources will take you from where you are to where you want to be, preparing you for the unique challenges and opportunities of outdoor ministry, and outlining how Trail Life addresses the challenges facing our youth. Be sure to always wear the Trail Life Troop uniform. It will serve you well unadorned or accessorized with your clerical sash or collar. When you first put it on, you will feel a surge of pride, walking a little straighter and taller, and for good reason. That distinctive uniform is the green of meadow and woodland, the visible badge of your Trail Life family, the full armor of God, and a sign to the community and yourself that you believe in the potential of your fellow Trailmen. It is evidence that you are willing to stretch yourself beyond your comfort zone with patience, humility and humor. It is a mark of your intent to Walk Worthy. In His Service, John Burkitt

Scouting Our Way written by Robert Lee Edmonds and has been published by Eight Eleven Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-04-16 with Religion categories.

Scouting Our Way celebrates a century of the Boy Scouts of America's rich, faith-based heritage. It embraces the spirit of Scouting and renews the religious bedrock of Lord Robert S.S. Baden-Powell's pioneering experiment in shaping good character in youth and preparing them to do their best. His founding moral principles and ideals embodied in the Boy Scouts of America's Oath and Law are brilliantly illuminated in the book through prayers and devotions from over thirty religions and denominations. Scouting Our Way includes an extraordinary selection of traditional and favorite Scout prayers and devotions arranged by program and activity suitable for personal reflection and group gatherings. There is also a prayer journal inside the book for Scouts to record their personal and favorite prayers. At the end of each chapter are Set My Compass interactive, theme-based adventures where the reader can engage with unique chapter topics through faith-building activities. Each Set My Compass exercise is an enlightening, personal, and sharing experience for Scouts to appreciate the blessings and value of reverence, duty, and fellowship. These chapter tasks are readily adaptable for age and program and are an ideal complement to earning advancement, service or religious honors requiring an understanding and the role of a Scout's duty to God. Scouting Our Way also features a journey of prayer in America from the country's foremost leaders and personalities during landmark events in our nation's history. Included, as well, are inspiring words from the presidents of the United States opening with Theodore Roosevelt to the current chief of state speaking on the importance of religious diversity and fellowship among all citizens in building this great nation. Scouting Our Way is distinctive in the body of published works on religious diversity and interfaith understanding. It is an indispensable resource for meditation and spiritual growth. Scouts, leaders, parents, teachers, and mentors will also find it essential for use at meetings, outings, ceremonies, and special events where people of one or many faiths come together to celebrate the spirit and adventure of Scouting.
