The prudent in all the stages of culture have recognised that social and moral advancement and individual well-being depend upon patient and persistent investigation of human in stincts, emotions, and beliefs. To dissect every thing, view its own nature, and divide it into matter and form, was the rule laid down by Marcus Aurelius as the best provision for happiness.
