Pracowała dla „Svenska Dagbladet”, jednego z największych szwedzkich dzienników, oraz dla Szwedzkiego Radia. Była redaktorką (w tym redaktorką naczelną) kilku miesięczników kulturalnych i szefową działu kulturalnego w dzienniku „Upsala Nya Tidning”. Pod koniec lat dziewięćdziesiątych zamieszkała w Nowym Jorku, gdzie rozpoczęła zbieranie materiałów do swojego najsłynniejszego reportażu – „OK, amen”. Książka szybko stała się bestsellerem, została okrzyknięta „legendarną” i zainicjowała żywiołową dyskusję w prasie i na uniwersytetach.
