The term Believers' Church refers to those who regard the church as the fellowship of regenerate followers of Jesus Christ. Membership in these churches is founded on a voluntary confession of Jesus as Lord. Each member has access to God in worship and prayer and accepts responsibility for carrying the gospel to the world. The Word of God serves as the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. Written by capable thinkers in the Believers' Church tradition, The People of God addresses key issues in the area of ecclesiology. The contributions represent a wide variety of mature theological reflection. Exploring these ecclesiological concerns from a theological, biblical, historical, and contemporary perspective, these essays reflect the unity and diversity of the Believers' Church heritage.

Essential Church written by Thom S. Rainer and has been published by B&H Publishing Group this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-10-01 with Religion categories.

Why do so many young adults (18 to 22) leave the church, and what will it take to bring them back? This important question is examined and duly answered in Essential Church?, a follow-up to Thom S. Rainer’s best-selling Simple Church cowritten this time with his son, research expert Sam Rainer. The book is based on a study of one-thousand so-called "church dropouts" who were interviewed about why they left. Their answers are quite surprising, having less to do with "losing their religion" and more about the desire for a community that isn’t made stale by simply maintaining the status quo. In turn, the Rainers offer churches four concrete solutions toward making their worship community an essential part these young people’s lives again: Simplify - develop a clear structure and process for making disciples. Deepen - provide strong biblical teaching and preaching. Expect - let members know the need for commitment to the congregation. Multiply - emphasize evangelism, outward focus, and starting new churches.

The Gospel And The Catholic Church written by Michael Ramsey and has been published by Hendrickson Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Religion categories.

This reissue of Archbishop Ramsey s classic theological study of Anglican views of the church is important for students of ecumenism, and for those concerned with the relationship between Christ and the church in the New Testament. Although some of the book is dated, its conviction that the church s meaning lies in its fulfillment of the sufferings of Christ and that every part of its history is intelligible in terms of the Passion remains perceptive and challenging. Examining Scripture, doctrine, and history, Ramsey paints an intricate portrait of the church as an example of Christ s death and resurrection. He explores Eastern orthodox doctrine; explains the purposes and preconditions of the Reformation; and calls for a renewal of liturgical worship and reconciliation within the communion of the saints. Originally published in 1936 while he was serving as sub-warden of Lincoln Theological College, this was Ramsey s first book. After more than seventy years, its wisdom concerning the relationship between Catholic and Evangelical, and the underlying complementarities and tensions which characterize the Anglican tradition, remains theologically sound and biblically astute. Making the presence of God known in the world goes to the very heart of the churchs purpose. Yet it is a formidable challenge. How can the church make the presence and glory of God a reality in a world that both denies God and hates the church? By the church bearing the image of Jesus Christ in the world through word and deed for, as the unknown author of Hebrews declares, Jesus is the radiance of Gods glory and the exact representation of His being (Hebrews 1:3). It is not the primary purpose of the church to specialize in economic, social, or political issues but rather to proclaim the good news of what God has accomplished in and through Jesus Christ. When the church quits proclaiming Christ, to proclaim a message of love, acceptance, tolerance, and affirmation, then it ceases to effectively fulfill its purpose and loses its relevancy. Christ came into the world to proclaim the Gospel in the marketplace, and He did so while never surrendering His identity or sacrificing His purpose for the sake of relevancy. He expects his church in every age to do likewise. The greatest need in the church today is exactly what the early church needed in the first century. In a church that is infected with a spiritual apathy, has forsaken her first love, has compromised truth, and is lukewarm, a new vision of the risen and glorified Christ dwelling in her midst is needed. The only method God designed to lead the church to recover the awareness of Christs presence is prayer and preaching that focuses on Jesus Christ. Thus, if the church is to flourish again, there is no greater need than a recovery of faithful, powerful, biblical preaching whose subject is Christ and the new birth.

They Never Told Me This In Church written by Greg S. Deuble and has been published by Restoration Fellowship this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Religion categories.

There is a consensus among many New Testament scholars that much of what the historical Jesus and his apostles taught has been submerged by an influx of post-biblical tradition. Subtle foreign influences, mostly from pagan Greek philosophy, which neither Jesus nor his first-century followers would recognize or endorse, have obscured the original Gospel as Jesus preached it. Most churchgoers accept without question, unbiblical traditions which they have never seriously investigated. In They Never Told Me This in Church! Greg Deuble invites the reader to a careful re-examination of ?the faith once delivered? in the light of the Hebrew heritage which formed the framework of all that Jesus taught in regard to himself and his Gospel mission. From the Foreword: ?This does not mean at all that Greg has given up faith in holy Scripture. Far from it. There is nothing trendy or gimmicky in his approach. Rather, he has learned to read the Bible from its own Hebrew perspective, and shedding a large quantity of traditional baggage has made the Bible all the more brilliant and telling. Because he is an honest student of truth, Greg has been rewarded...with unusual insight. He has a knack of getting to the heart of the issues. He has brought in a wealth of modern scholarly support for his argument, and the quotations gleaned from his wide reading are impressive. He adds a pleasing dose of Aussie humour to his writing while he invites us to re-examine all the major issues of biblical theology. The personal warmth of the author and his pastoral touch are evident in all he writes.?They Never Told Me This in Church! will inspire and challenge all who claim devotion to Jesus, and many who are searching for the meaning of his role in history. They will be enabled to read the Bible with new eyes! The confused state of divided Christendom in our time demands just such an honest and radical investigation.

Jonas Jonson, who was directly involved with the ecumenical movement for forty years, offers in this book an inside perspective on an ever-changing global Christianity. Reviewing developments in ecumenism from the 1960s to the present, Jonson discusses the decolonization of mission, interreligious relations, God s preferential option for the poor, and unity in diversity. He also maps the global ecumenical landscape and presents the Fourth Church — comprising charismatic, Pentecostal, and evangelical movements of the twentieth century. How did the ecumenical movement respond to the fall of communism, the opening of China, and the globalization of financial markets? Why did so many big churches, caught in the whirlwind of change, retreat from their ecumenical commitments in order to promote and protect their own interests? Jonson addresses these questions and more in this comprehensive review of global Christianity and the ecumenical movement.

Many people think eschatology refers to events occurring at the end of history. In this book, two scholars with expertise in biblical eschatology argue that God's kingdom breaking into this world through Jesus Christ has inaugurated a new creation, a reality that should shape pastoral leadership and be reflected in the life and ministry of the church. Brief and accessibly written, this book articulates the practical implications of G. K. Beale's New Testament Biblical Theology and features an introductory chapter by Beale. Each chapter concludes with practical suggestions and a list of books for further study.
