A Christian Perspective On Political Thought written by Stephen Charles Mott and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993-05-27 with Religion categories.

Arguing that Americans make political choices in terms of a general notion of right and wrong, yet lack a sound, objective foundation for such values, evangelical scholar Stephen Mott formulates a Christian political theory that supplies such norms. Drawing on theological and biblical sources, Mott thoroughly develops the biblical and theological foundations for politics and political evaluation. Mott proposes that political philosophies should be evaluated in light of Christian theological and ethical values--specifically the understanding of power, human nature, the nature of group life, justice and love, government, and time. He then applies this critical framework in an evaluation of political ideologies, including traditional conservatism, liberalism, democracy, laissez-faire conservatism, Marxist socialism, and democratic socialism. He gives special attention to their classical exponents and ideas. Asserting that political visions ultimately depend on cultural values that themselves require vigorous religious faith in a particular society, Mott's study offers a valuable introduction to Christian political thought as well as an illuminating look at the connection between politics and religion.

The Good Of Politics Engaging Culture written by James W. Skillen and has been published by Baker Academic this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-03-18 with Religion categories.

In this addition to the acclaimed Engaging Culture series, a highly respected author and Christian thinker offers a principled, biblical perspective on engaging political culture as part of one's calling. James Skillen believes that constructive Christian engagement depends on the belief that those made in the image of God are created not only for family life, agriculture, education, science, industry, and the arts but also for building political communities, justly ordered for the common good. He argues that God made us to be royal stewards of public governance from the outset and that the biblical story of God's creation, judgment, and redemption of all things in Jesus Christ has everything to do with politics and government. In this irenic, nonpartisan treatment of an oft-debated topic, Skillen critically assesses current political realities and helps readers view responsibility in the political arena as a crucial dimension of the Christian faith.

Politics And Government written by Emmanuel Ihim and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-27 with categories.

Christians need not be indifferent to the culture, in a society that has proven to be hostile to the Christian faith. They must seek to be equipped with the Christian worldview. This will empower them to understand and apply the total counsel of God to all areas of culture, as a means of bringing every area of thought to the obedience of Christ. The Lordship of Christ is not just for the Church, but the government, education, economics, law, and more. Christians must comprehend the dynamic relationship between the culture and the Christian faith since the Lordship of Christ encompasses and overlaps every area of life and reality, as there is nothing concerning reality that is not spiritual. Christians of our day have been sitting on the fence and very complacent to culture and society. And in response to Christ's command to "render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's..., Christians have rendered to Caesar, not just what belongs to him, but that which belongs to God as well. In our quest for righteousness, we have relinquished justices, what is the result? We have neither. This is the consequence of Christians woefully abandoning their Biblical obligation of "light and "salt" ministry and neglecting the cultural mandate and our commission to disciple our nations. (Matthew 28: 19-20; Genesis 1:28).Christianity demands that we not only be concerned but to be involved in our society. The Christian perspective of politics does not accept the separation of morality from politics; instead, consider all politics as a moral enterprise. The government regulates how citizens live in society, and how we live and treat each other primarily connects with the Christian cultural commission (mandate) to care for God's creation. In addition to the negative function of restraining crime in society, the government has a positive function of promoting a just social order so that people can live in peace and harmony. This is what Apostle Paul meant when he urged Timothy to, "...pray for their rulers and for all who have authority so that we can have quiet and peaceful lives, full of worship and holiness." The government should develop society and sustain a stable environment, in which people can live, dream, aspire, pursue, and fulfill their passion and destinies. They should protect the peoples' voluntary effort to shape civil society and community, by granting equal protection of the law and by upholding principles of justice to all-to the poor and the rich. The government must ensure that the weak and powerless are not exploited by guaranteeing liberty and providing security for everyone. This book is a wakeup call for all Christians. It discourages Christians from standing on the sideline of culture and provides the wisdom, strategy, and framework for Christian cultural engagement, including government and politics. It encourages and inspires Christians to defend Biblical principles, as they blend with government policies and laws. This will enliven an environment of freedom for all citizens to fulfill their potentials, without discrimination or oppression. It also expounds the Biblical basis for civil obedience and disobedience, as potent tools for restoring liberty and liberating society from the shackles of dictatorship. Indeed, it is a call for action for Christians everywhere to restore their decadent society bedeviled with godless governments so that the gospel is not hindered. The book highlights the challenges against the silent Church that does not stand up or speaks to the issues in society but enmeshed in status quo syndrome. It presents the true picture of the New Testament Church and how the disciples considered obeying God's commands a priority when it conflicts with the government's laws and policies. It explores the right theological solution, as the answers to the bisecting questions on the issues of governance.

Power Made Perfect written by Timothy R. A. Sherratt and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-02 with Religion categories.

How would politics be different if Christians acknowledged Jesus Christ as the archetype of all rulers, democratic and nondemocratic? How would our practice of politics change if we recognized the suffering love of Christ as the truest exercise of power? Power Made Perfect? offers a distinctive approach to government and politics. It is important, the author argues, to ask how creation provides guidance for political conduct; for politics to be an exercise in piety; and to approach politics in a fallen world with prudence and not in pursuit of ultimate solutions. But it is even more important to begin with Jesus Christ. Christ is the rightful ruler of the world who exercises power by suffering and dying for guilty humans. All political activity is held to the standard of Christ's sacrifice. In this book, Timothy Sherratt surveys major Christian political initiatives and schools of Christian political thought, with a particular emphasis on American politics, before outlining ways in which Christians in churches can practice faithful political engagement.

In Faith in Politics? the former Bishop of Oxford, Richard Harries, addresses our concerns by re-examining the roots of our political values. He considers the various strands of thought that have had a bearing on political philosophy over time, such as utilitarianism and liberalism, and how each contribute to contemporary views of the good society. He argues strongly that a Christian perspective has a distinct part to play in the shaping of our life together, and that rediscovering this perspective can help towards building a better society.
