Antwort auf diese Frage gibt die Befreiungstheologie. Die Befreiungstheologie ist ohne Zweifel christlichen Ursprungs und wurde im Christentum bereits breit und vielseitig rezipiert. In der Ausarbeitung wird untersucht, inwiefern die islamische Befreiungstheologie als ein Pendant zur christlichen Theologie der Befreiung gilt. Dabei werden die Konzeptionen des christlichen Befreiungstheologen Gustavo Gutiérrez, sowie die des muslimischen Befreiungstheologen Farid Esack miteinander in Verbindung gebracht. Beide Theologen sind beispielhaft für ihre jeweiligen Religionen und haben die befreiungstheologischen Überlegungen grundliegend geprägt. Die Ausarbeitung folgt der Methode der komparativen Theologie, welche zu Beginn dargelegt wird.
