Im Mittelpunkt stand der Versuch einer Definition des 'Zwischenraums' zwischen zwei Kulturen, der einerseits die Bedingung für mögliche kulturelle Erneuerung darstellt, andererseits aber auch für die realen Katastrophen im Kontext interkultureller Begegnungen. Die Problematik interkultureller Übersetzung ist ihrerseits als Theorie und Praxis dieses 'Zwischenraums' zu verstehen, insofern sie im Zwischenraum zwischen Übersetzbarkeit und Unübersetzbarkeit angesiedelt ist.
