A young adult sci-fi Christmas story by Jack Butler, illustrated by Gabi Clayton, Christmas on a Distant Planet is an edge-of-your-seat story with beautiful descriptive writing and hilariously brilliant word play by the author of Practicing Zen Without a License and Nightshade, a tale of a vampire on Mars, and the Pulitzer Prize nominated Living in Little Rock with Miss Little Rock. Rammy-Remmy de Remy is an enterprising young boy living with his scientist parents and genius little sister on a snow-covered planet in outer space. He is worried that Santa won't be able to get to Outpost in time for Christmas, so he sets off on a wild adventurous life-threatening journey to open the Gate to let Santa in. Humans have set up scientific research stations on a planet in the Zeta Reticuli double-star system. Outpost is a beautiful planet, totally covered in snow and pseudo-forests, a perfect Christmas planet. But Outpost is 39 lightyears from Earth. How can Santa cross the raw vacuum of outer space to get there? Only two brave children can help-Rammy-Remmy de Remy and his baby sister, Cassiopeia, the first human born on a planet around another star. She and Rammy are geniuses, like their parents, but there is a secret about Cassiopeia that only Rammy suspects. The Harrakoom, animals native to Outpost, who look something like reindeer and something like centaurs once had a thriving technological civilization. But now they have apparently turned back into snow-grazing animals, abandoning the ancient satellite they put up around their planet thousands of years ago. Rammy and Cassiopeia's parents are scientists who are on deadline to solve the mystery of what happened to the Harrakoom. The deadline approaches without a solution, and Rammy becomes worried about whether Christmas can happen on Outpost. He decides to risk his life in the deadly snowstorms of Outpost to open the Gate so Santa can get through. Just when things look their darkest, Cassiopeia's secret and the mystery of the Harrakoom deliver a great big surprise. Will it be enough to save Rammy-Remmy? Will there be a Christmas on Outpost? Will the mystery of the Harrakoom ever be resolved? Christmas on a Distant Planet takes the Christmas story into the Space Age, but makes it fresher and funnier and more exciting than it has ever been before.

For over half a century, Alistair Cooke entertained and informed millions of listeners around the world in his weekly BBC radio program Letter from America. An outstanding observer of the American scene, he became one of the world’s best-loved broadcasters, and a foreigner who helped Americans better understand themselves. Here, in print for the first time, is a collection of Cooke’s finest reports that celebrates the inimitable style of this wise and avuncular reporter. Beginning with his first letter in 1946, a powerful description of American GIs returning home, and ending with his last broadcast in February 2004, in which he expressed his views on the United States presidential campaign, the collection captures Cooke’s unique voice and gift for telling stories. Gathered in this volume are encounters with the many presidents Cooke knew, from Roosevelt to Nixon, Reagan, Clinton, and Bush, both Senior and Junior. His friends are warmly recollected–among them Leonard Bernstein, Philip Larkin, Humphrey Bogart, Charlie Chaplin, and Katharine Hepburn. We observe a variety of political landmarks–the Vietnam War, Watergate, Cooke’s remarkable eyewitness account of Robert Kennedy’s assassination, through to the scandals that surrounded Clinton and the conflict in Iraq. His moving evocation of the events of September 11 and its aftermath remains essential reading, while his recollections of holidays and sporting events remind us of Cooke’s delight in the pleasures of everyday life. Imbued with Alistair Cooke’s good humor, elegance, and understanding, Letter from America, 1946—2004 is a captivating insight into the heart of a nation and a fitting tribute to the man who was for so many the most reassuring voice of our times.

Heroes And Hierophants is the culmination of a year of innovative writing from three of today's hottest underground authors. The plan was simple: each week one of them would propose a topic, and they would each have a week to write about it. Then the next week another would give a topic, and so forth for the whole of the year. From this simple high concept beginning, Marcus D'Ambrose, Douglas Palermo and Noel Rogers took the project into directions entirely unprecedented. From serious god knowledge to rape jokes, the fearless trio push the envelope, lift the skirt of reality and explore the boundaries of the written word. What is already described as "a bold and visionary experiment in 21st century literature" (The Milville Times) and "perhaps the first look at a new integral method for the evolution of the species into cosmic awareness" (The Dobbs Ferry Clarion) is finally ready for download into your consciousness. Are you ready for it?
