Black Athena written by Martin Bernal and has been published by Rutgers University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1987 with History categories.

What is classical about Classical civilization? In one of the most audacious works of scholarship ever written, Martin Bernal challenges the whole basis of our thinking about this question. Classical civilization, he argues, has deep roots in Afroasiatic cultures. But these Afroasiatic influences have been systematically ignored, denied or suppressed since the eighteenth century - chiefly for racist reasons. Volume II is concerned with the archaeological and documentary evidence for contacts between Egypt and the Levant on the one hand and the Aegean on the other, during the Bronze Age from c. 3400 B.C. to c. 1100 B.C.

B B Edh Dhr written by Paul W. Lapp and has been published by Eisenbrauns this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with History categories.

This volume presents Paul W. Lapp's excavations at Bab edh-Dhra between 1965-1967, which concentrated on the cemetery of the site. This focus on the cemetery material has had the result that many came to associate Bab edh-Dhra with its tombs. Yet it is important in this volume on tomb material to stress that the latter is only one set of evidence at the site and that the cemetery remains need to be considered in relation to the data from the town site. The Bab edh-Dhra town site excavations are covered in volume 2 of this series "Reports of the Expedition to the Dead Sea Plain, Jordan."

Myth And Politics In Ancient Near Eastern Historiography written by Mario Liverani and has been published by Cornell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-06 with History categories.

The essays included in this volume analyze important historical texts from various regions of the Ancient Near East. The distinguished Italian historian Mario Liverani suggests that these historiographical texts were of a "true" historical nature and that their literary forms achieved their intended results. Liverani focuses on two central themes in these texts: myth and politics. There is a close connection, Liverani finds, between the writing of history and the validation of political order and political action. History defines the correct role and behavior of political leaders, especially when they do not possess the validation provided by tradition. Historical texts, he discovers, are more often the tools for supporting change than for supporting stability.Liverani demonstrates that history writing in the Ancient Near East made frequent use of mythical patterns, wisdom motifs, and literary themes in order to fulfill its audience's cultural expectations. The resulting nonhistorical literary forms can mislead interpretation, but an analysis of these forms allows the texts' sociopolitical and communicative frameworks to emerge.

A COMPANION TO THE ARCHAEOLOGY OF THE ANCIENT NEAR EAST A Companion to the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East is a comprehensive and authoritative overview of ancient material culture from the late Pleistocene to Late Antiquity. This expansive two-volume work includes 58 new essays from an international community of ancient Near East scholars. With coverage extending from Asia Minor, the eastern Mediterranean, and Egypt to the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Indo-Iranian borderlands, the book highlights the enormous variation in cultural developments across roughly 11,000 years of human endeavor. In addition to chapters devoted to specific regions and particular periods, many contributors concentrate on individual industries and major themes in ancient Near Eastern archaeology, ranging from metallurgy and agriculture to irrigation and fishing. Controversial issues, including the nature and significance of the antiquities market, ethical considerations in archaeological praxis, the history of the foundation of departments of antiquities, and ancient attitudes towards the past, make this a unique collection of studies that will be of interest to scholars, students, and interested readers alike.
