Analiza detalladamente la evolución del FSM desde su creación en 2001, las tensiones que atraviesa y los principales desafíos a los que se enfrenta. Boaventura de Sousa Santos es profesor de Sociología de la facultad de Economía de la Universidad de Coimbra, director del Centro de Estudios Sociales y del Centro de Documentación 25 de Abril de esa misma universidad y es profesor visitante de la Universidad de Wisconsin-Madison. Además, ha participado activamente en el Foro Social Mundial y forma parte del comité institucional que lo sustenta.
