Rereading Travellers to the East aim to offer a new perspective on travel literature, the question of nation-building and the history of orientalism. Rereading Travellers focuses on the rereadings to which early modern travel literature about Asia has been subjected by different actors involved in the political, economic, cultural and intellectual life of post-unification Italy. The authors highlight how this literature has been reinterpreted and reused for political and ideological purposes in the context of the formation and reformation of collective identities, from the Risorgimento to the Fascist regime and the early republic. By showing the potential of the notion of rereading, the volume outlines a history of the political and cultural legacy of travel literature which goes well beyond Italy.

Questo volume, nato dalla volontà di rendere omaggio alla carriera e alla vivacità intellettuale di Alessandra Lavagnino, rende onore al profilo di una studiosa eclettica, grazie all'adesione di numerosi colleghi dell'Università degli Studi di Milano che, in epoche e attraverso percorsi diversi, hanno condiviso con lei attività culturali e di ricerca. Tra gli studiosi che hanno partecipato al presente volume, alcuni hanno accompagnato più da vicino Alessandra nella lunga marcia che ha trasformato Mediazione linguistica e culturale da corso di laurea co-gestito dalle Facoltà di Scienze Politiche e di Lettere e Filosofia, in un Dipartimento con sede autonoma a Sesto S. Giovanni. Altri, insieme a lei, hanno svolto compiti di governance e hanno fondato il Contemporary Asia Research Centre di Ateneo o dato vita all'Istituto Confucio. Molti poi hanno condiviso con Alessandra riflessioni intellettuali e attività culturali, occasioni per alimentare un crescente interesse per la Cina e, più in generale, per l'Asia all'interno dell'Ateneo e nella regione Lombardia. Ad accomunare i testi raccolti in questo volume è il fatto che, pur con modalità distinte, tutti gli autori hanno scelto temi collegati alla produzione intellettuale di Alessandra. The Analects are also called the Analects of Confucius, the Sayings of Confucius, or the Lun Yu, and are an old Chinese book written of a wide collection of ideas and sayings credited to the Chinese philosopher Confucius and his peers. It is believed to have been compiled and written by Confucius's followers. It might have been written during the Warring States period (477-221 BC), and it reached its final structure during the mid-Han dynasty (206 BC-220 AD). By the early Han dynasty, the Analects were thought of as simply a commentary on the Five Masterpieces, but the situation with the Analects developed to be one of the central texts of Confucianism toward the end of that dynasty. His essential goal in teaching his students was to produce ethically well-mannered men who might convey themselves with gravity, talk accurately, and demonstrate perfect integrity in all things.

In this new collection of essays, Andrew Feenberg argues that conflicts over the design and organization of the technical systems that structure our society shape deep choices for the future. A pioneer in the philosophy of technology, Feenberg demonstrates the continuing vitality of the critical theory of the Frankfurt School. He calls into question the anti-technological stance commonly associated with its theoretical legacy and argues that technology contains potentialities that could be developed as the basis for an alternative form of modern society. Feenberg's critical reflections on the ideas of Jürgen Habermas, Herbert Marcuse, Jean-François Lyotard, and Kitaro Nishida shed new light on the philosophical study of technology and modernity.
