Este libro persigue ampliar ese horizonte de la experiencia compartida con la muestra de cinco biografías excepcionales. La primera corresponde al sacerdote Juan de Bustamante y su labor tipográfica en la India. Desde 1556 publicó libros, folletos, grabados y hasta un vocabulario en lengua nativa. Enseñó el arte de imprimir a sus aprendices de la India y Japón. Algunos años después destacó, también en la Goa portuguesa, el valenciano Dimas Bosque, un médico del Renacimiento que frenó los estragos de una epidemia mediante el confinamiento de los enfermos y el cuidado médico. Como naturalista, realizó una disección de un animal marino no catalogado y utilizó el método experimental en sus ensayos científicos. La siguiente historia transcurre en Birmania, donde González de Lanciego prestó servicios al rey Bagyidaw a principios del siglo XIX. Otra vida aventurera es la de Nadine Hwang (Juan), la inquieta china, nacida en Madrid (1902), que defendió el feminismo, la igualdad de género y el lesbianismo. Su hermana Marcela, traductora, escritora, divulgadora de la milenaria civilización china en el ámbito hispano, trabajó con la vista puesta en crear vías de conexión entre ambas culturas.
