A inicios de 1965 un grupo de estudiantes de la Universidad Católica dio a conocer el primer número, mimeografiado, de una revista de apariencia humilde, pero muy combativa en sus posiciones. Se llamaba Hablemos de Cine y salió publicada cada quince días durante ese año. Luego, y ya impresa, editó 77 entregas durante veinte años. Con motivo del cincuentenario de su aparición, que se cumplió en 2015, se planeó una amplia antología en forma de libro, cuyo primer volumen, dedicado al cine peruano y latinoamericano, presentamos. Hablemos de Cine marcó un antes y un después en la crítica cinematográfica en el Perú, así como en la atención preferente al cine peruano y latinoamericano. Con la presencia de Hablemos de Cine, la apreciación del sétimo arte empezó a variar y la revista, distribuida en países vecinos, tuvo lectores en Buenos Aires, Santiago, Montevideo, Bogotá, Caracas y México, muchos de los cuales ejercieron luego la crítica en sus respectivos países. Esta antología, editada por Isaac León Frías y Federico de Cárdenas, intenta dar a conocer a las nuevas generaciones el aporte de una publicación especializada que se considera histórica en el campo de la cultura cinematográfica en América Latina.

Third Cinema, World Cinema and Marxism offers an analysis of Third Cinema and World Cinema from the perspective of Marxism. Its starting point is an observation that of all cinematic phenomena none is as intimately related to Marxism as Third Cinema, which decries neoliberalism, the capitalist system, and the Hollywood model of cinema as mere entertainment to make money. This is largely to do with the fact that both Marxism and Third Cinema are preoccupied with inequalities resulting from capital accumulation, of which colonialism is the most extreme manifestation. Third Cinema also defines cinematic modes in terms of representing interest of different classes, with First Cinema expressing imperialist, capitalist, bourgeois ideas, Second Cinema the aspirations of the middle stratum, the petit bourgeoisie and Third Cinema is a democratic, popular cinema.

Documentary plays an essential role in the struggles over memories of Latin America's dictatorial pasts. Ever since Chile's military coup of 11 September 1973, whether inside the country or in exile, filmmakers have passionately and incessantly documented, created, and reenacted memories from this traumatic event and its aftermath. (Un)veiling Bodies analyses the rich landscape of Chilean documentary during the first two decades after the restoration of civilian rule in 1990. Ramírez-Soto proposes a trajectory that shifts from revealing the bodies of direct victims to unveiling the body of the film itself. This is a journey deeply intertwined with the country's own democratic transition. Informed by the affective turn in film studies, this book offers a novel approach to this largely unexplored field of Chilean cinema by arguing that these heterogeneous works shift from a 'cinema of the affected' to a 'cinema of affect'. By doing so, these documentaries contribute to Chilean society's own restoration of the senses. Elizabeth Ramírez-Soto is Assistant Professor in the School of Cinema at San Francisco State University. Her articles have appeared in Quarterly Review of Film and Video, Rethinking History, and Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies. She is also the coeditor of Nomadías: El cine de Marilú Mallet, Valeria Sarmiento y Angelina Vázquez (2016).
