Circular Statistics in R provides the most comprehensive guide to the analysis of circular data in over a decade. Circular data arise in many scientific contexts whether it be angular directions such as: observed compass directions of departure of radio-collared migratory birds from a release point; bond angles measured in different molecules; wind directions at different times of year at a wind farm; direction of stress-fractures in concrete bridge supports; longitudes of earthquake epicentres or seasonal and daily activity patterns, for example: data on the times of day at which animals are caught in a camera trap, or in 911 calls in New York, or in internet traffic; variation throughout the year in measles incidence, global energy requirements, TV viewing figures or injuries to athletes. The natural way of representing such data graphically is as points located around the circumference of a circle, hence their name. Importantly, circular variables are periodic in nature and the origin, or zero point, such as the beginning of a new year, is defined arbitrarily rather than necessarily emerging naturally from the system. This book will be of value both to those new to circular data analysis as well as those more familiar with the field. For beginners, the authors start by considering the fundamental graphical and numerical summaries used to represent circular data before introducing distributions that might be used to model them. They go on to discuss basic forms of inference such as point and interval estimation, as well as formal significance tests for hypotheses that will often be of scientific interest. When discussing model fitting, the authors advocate reduced reliance on the classical von Mises distribution; showcasing distributions that are capable of modelling features such as asymmetry and varying levels of kurtosis that are often exhibited by circular data. The use of likelihood-based and computer-intensive approaches to inference and modelling are stressed throughout the book. The R programming language is used to implement the methodology, particularly its "circular" package. Also provided are over 150 new functions for techniques not already covered within R. This concise but authoritative guide is accessible to the diverse range of scientists who have circular data to analyse and want to do so as easily and as effectively as possible.

This text book is primarily intended for students who are preparing for the entrance tests of IIT-JEE/NEET/AIIMS and other esteemed colleges in same fields. This text is equally useful to the students preparing for their school exams. Our main goals in writing this text book are to present the basic concepts and principles of physics that students need to know for their competitive exams. 1. to provide a balance of quantitative reasoning and conceptual understanding, with special attention to concepts that have been causing difficulties to student in understanding the concepts. 2. to develop students' problem-solving skills and confidence in a systematic manner. 3. to motivate students by integrating real-world examples that build upon their everyday experiences. Main Features of the Book- 1. Every concept is up to the mark and it is given in student friendly language with various solved problems. The solution is provided with problem solving approach and discussion. 2. Checkpoint questions have been added to applicable sections of the text to allow students to pause and test their understanding of the concept explored within the current section. The answers and solutions to the Checkpoints are given in answer keys, at the end of the chapter, so that students can confirm their knowledge without jumping too quickly to the provided answer. 3. Special attention is given to all tricky topics (like- centripetal and tangential acceleration, uniform circular motion vs. projectile motion, relative angular velocity, centripetal and centrifugal force, unbanked and banked curves, motion in a vertical circle, Coriolis force (optional), effect of rotation of earth on apparent weight and the physics of artificial gravity), so that student can easily solve them with fun. 4. To test the understanding level of students, multiple choice questions, conceptual questions, practice problems with previous years JEE Main and Advanced problems are provided at the end of the whole discussion. Number of dots indicates level of problem difficulty. Straightforward problems (basic level) are indicated by single dot (●), intermediate problems (JEE mains and NEET level) are indicated by double dots (●●), whereas challenging problems (advanced level) are indicated by thee dots (●●●). Answer keys with hints and solutions are provided at the end of the chapter.

Foreword by Lord Woolf, the former Lord Chief Justice. The Judicial Review Handbook is one of the leading works in public law, an indispensable source of reference and a guide to the burgeoning case law in judicial review. Established as an essential part of the library of any practitioner engaged in public law cases, the Judicial Review Handbook offers unrivalled coverage of administrative law, including, but not confined to the work of the Administrative Court and its procedures. But as anyone who has used the previous editions will acknowledge, it is much more than that. The completely revised and up-dated fifth edition is once again structured around 63 unique legal principles supported by a compendious compilation of sources and an unequalled selection of reported case quotations. It also includes essential procedural rules, forms and guidance issued by the Administrative Court. This edition builds on previous editions with deepened coverage of the impact on judicial review of both the Civil Procedure Rules and the Human Rights Act 1998 which, at the time of the previous edition, were both new arrivals in English law. Their impact, and the plethora of cases which explore their meaning and application, are fully analysed and evaluated by Michael Fordham, and quotations from the cases incorporated into the unique appendices of case extracts. The author, a leading member of the English public law bar, has been involved in many of the leading judicial review cases in recent years and is the founding editor of the Judicial Review journal. "It is our first port of call when we have an administrative law problem". (Lord Woolf, from the Foreword to the Third Edition) See the companion website for this book (including case synopses) at: www.judicialreviewhandbook.com.
