Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875) era um autor, poeta e artista dinamarquês. Consagrado na literatura infantil, seus contos mais conhecidos são "A roupa nova do rei", A pequena sereia", "O rouxinol", "O soldadinho de chumbo", "A rainha da neve", "O patinho feio" e "A pequena vendedora de fósforos". Seus livros foram traduzidos para todos os idiomas. Nos dias de hoje, não há quem não conheça os fantásticos personagens de Andersen.
