Attenzione. Non avvicinarsi a questo libro se non si è disposti a smarrirsi, a smascherare, a essere smascherati. Se non si è disposti a morire intensamente sotto i fuochi della Scintilla. La vera Scintilla, quella dell’arte, quella performativa, è immortale. È capace di sopravvivere a chi l’ha posseduta. Moriremo dolcemente, ferocemente, in un giorno qualunque. La Scintilla naviga, luminescente, verso l’ignoto. Attenzione. Non avvicinarsi a questo libro se non si è disposti ad accettare che l’unica parola intelligente è quella che si strozza in gola. Dal 1987 Flavia Mastrella e Antonio Rezza condividono il loro percorso artistico. Praticando diverse forme d’arte, hanno fatto del performativo una poetica totemica. Essi erompono come malanni nella vita dello spettatore. Hanno un’ambizione che non è tale perché la soddisfano: perdita del significato residuo e parola alle cifre della carneficina. Irrompono nel teatro devastando il teatro. Generano, in continuazione, fatti nuovi, cortocircuiti, oscurità da eccesso e da difetto. Travolgono e stravolgono. Sfaldano il quotidiano sotto strati di disperatissime strida comiche. Non manipolano il cervello di chi vede: manipolano il corpo di chi guarda. Si esibiscono sui palchi di questa povera striscia di terra fatta a stivale per galleggiare nella melma e devastano impetuosi i palchi medesimi. Scrivono che il teatro è incivile per definizione. «Un teatro civile per un paese civile è un’utopia non per la civiltà del teatro ma per l’inciviltà del paese.» Per loro il teatro deve sconfinare. L’arte deve sconfinare. Non c’è nessun futuro per un teatro che privilegia la narrazione allo struggimento. Dovrebbero esistere leggi speciali che proibiscano la spiegazione di un’opera e impediscano al creatore le menzogne di una storia compiuta. Inscenando corpi corrosi di zoppi, mendicanti e disperati, Flavia Mastrella e Antonio Rezza allestiscono da sempre opere che corrodono; opere dove la poetica del frammento si coniuga alle esperienze performative, dove la velocità – clamori al vento! – è fatta anche di sculture abbacinanti, quadri di scena, urla strazianti, corpi deformi. Erompendo come malanni agli occhi dello spettatore, essi comprimono l’eternità. Clamori al vento, oltre che un prodigioso testo-performance dove anche la scrittura viene travolta dall’assalto ai limiti dell’umano di Mastrella e Rezza, è la loro dichiarazione poetica, il loro monumentale zibaldone, strumento indispensabile per addentrarsi nell’opera degli artisti che più hanno segnato, e che più segneranno, la nostra contemporaneità.

Aracoeli (1982) was the last novel written by Elsa Morante (1912-85), one of the most significant Italian writers of the twentieth century. The journey, both geographical and memorial, of a homosexual son in search of his dead mother is a first-person narrative that has puzzled many critics for its darkness and despair. By combining scholars from different disciplines and cultural traditions, this volume re-evaluates the esthetical and theoretical complexity of Morante's novel and argues that it engages with crucial philosophical and epistemological questions in an original and profound way. Contributors explore the manifold tensions staged by the novel in connection with contemporary philosophical discourse (from feminist/queer to political theory to psycho-analysis) and authors (such as Emilio Gadda, Pier Paolo Pasolini and Pedro Almodovar). The Power of Disturbance shows that by creating a 'hallucinatory' representation of the relationship between mother and child, Aracoeli questions the classical distinction between subject and object, and proposes an altogether new and subversive kind of writing. Manuele Gragnolati teaches Italian literature at Oxford University, where he is a Fellow of Somerville College. Sara Fortuna teaches philosophy of language at the Universita Guglielmo Marconi in Rome.
