Dick inventeaza o lume o planeta ce serveste drept azil de nebuni din care personalul medical a plecat lasandu-i pe pacienti de capul lor. Asa ca fiecare grupa de nebuni fondeaza un oras creand o cultura in jurul propriei forme de nebunie. Pentru prima data mi-am dat seama ca nebunia este de fapt un creier distrus iar modul in care este distrus poate genera o cultura pasionanta: orice artist traieste un soi de nebunie pe care o controleaza mai mult sau mai putin. Un nebun e cineva care si-a ratat cariera de artist. O idee pe care Dick o dezvolta in jurul nebuniei este ca toti suntem nebuni si incapabili sa ne intelegem. Se creeaza anumite zone terenuri neutre unde ajungem sa avem o vaga iluzie a comunicarii insa doi oameni nu izbutesc sa se inteleaga fiindca amandoi sunt nebuni dar in moduri diferite. Deci ei percep lumea si se percep unul pe celalalt intr-o maniera complicata si trunchiata ceea ce explica dificultatea iubirii si a comunicarii. Nu reusim sa ne intelegem nu reusim sa ne iubim pentru ca fiecare avem un alt fel de nebunie.“ Bernard Werber autorul romanului Furnicile „Hotarat lucru Philip K. Dick apreciaza tema psihiatriei. In excelentul roman Clanurile de pe Alpha plin de umor si de cinism autorul expune un punct de vedere amuzant asupra nebuniei. Eugenics movements gained momentum throughout Eastern Europe between World Wars I and II. Maria Bucur demonstrates that the importance of the eugenics movement in Romania rests not so much in the contributions made to the study of science as in the realm of nationalist ideology and social policy making.The notion that the quality and quantity of the human species could and should be controlled manifested itself through social engineering projects ranging from reshaping gender roles and isolating ethnic undesirables to introducing broad public health measures and educational reform. Romanian eugenicists sought to control such modernization processes as urbanization and industrialization without curbing them, yet they also embraced attitudes more typically identified with anti-modernists in Romanian politics and culture. Bucur is the first historian to explore the role of eugenics as a response to the challenges of nation- and state-building in Eastern Europe.
