We live in a broken world. Amid the daily realities of sickness and isolation, disappointment and pain, it can be profoundly difficult to grasp the real goodness of God. But this is where God breaks into our darkness with beauty. In the wonder of creation, in art or film, story or song, in the kindness of his people and the good they create, God breaks into our pain in a tangible way, teaching us to trust his kindness and hope for his healing. Beauty is a voice singing into our suffering, beckoning us toward restoration. In This Beautiful Truth, Sarah Clarkson shares her own encounters with beauty in the midst of her decade-long struggle with mental illness, depression, and doubt. In a voice both vulnerable and reflective, she paints a compelling picture of the God who reaches out to us in a real and powerful way through the "taste and see" goodness of what he has made and what he continues to create amid our darkness. "To recognize and trust God's gift in pain," she writes, "empowers us to create and love as powerful witnesses to God's healing love in a hopeless world." If you want to renew your capacity to recognize and encounter God's beauty in your life, this hope-filled book will show you the way.

From causing huge disruptions anddefending the rights of drivers to fisticuffs with Piers Morgan, this is the true story of a colorful life lived at breakneck speedMotoring aficionado, comic writer, television host, engineering buff, journalist, author, and unapologetic bon viveur, Jeremy Clarkson is one of Britain's most controversial personalities, and in this riveting and entertaining biography, frank views and hilariously candid anecdotes appear alongside the life story of the self-confessed Eurosceptic, chain-smoking grease monkey. After a stint as a traveling salesman, Clarkson set up his own press agency, and soon found fame and fortune with BBC's "Top Gear." Notoriously hit in the face with a banana meringue pie the day he received his honorary degree, he has been accused of calling cyclists "muesli freaks" and BMW employees "Nazis."Love him or loathe him, he can't be ignored."

When abolitionists Thomas Clarkson and Ottobah Cugoano published their essays on slavery in the late eighteenth century, they became key participants in one of the most important human rights campaigns in history. British abolitionism sought to expose the realities of transatlantic slavery in addition to asking politicians to help dehumanized Africans in the New World, and this edition brings together two major essays of the 1780s that were influential in the spread of the early abolitionist movement: Clarkson’s An Essay on the Slavery and Commerce of the Human Species and Cugoano’s Thoughts and Sentiments on the Evil and Wicked Traffic of the Slavery and Commerce of the Human Species. A critical introduction and extensive historical appendices on British and American slavery and abolitionism, featuring contemporary arguments for and against slavery, are also included.

Signet Regency Romance presents a beloved tale that explores the lessons of love from Sharon Sobel. Available Digitally For the First Time Emily Clarkson has a new teaching position far from the civilized London life she knows. Quick-witted and confident, Emily is up for the challenge, but she never expects the real test will be her employer—prosperous mill owner Daniel Lennox. She’s expecting a country gentleman, not the brawny, outspoken fellow who greets her in a bloodstained shirt. He’s anticipating an old maid, not an impertinent snobbish girl. They are at each other’s throats from day one—and seem bound to end up in each other’s arms. But when a mysterious feud sets Daniel against an elderly duke, and the duke’s new wife—Daniel’s first love—is back in the picture, the teacher must become the student, if she is to save the man she has so recently grown to need… Don’t miss Sharon Sobel’s classic Regency Romance, Lady Larkspur Declines.

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The modern visitor to the Highland areas of Scotland encounters the Picts through their spectacular artistic legacy. They made their first appearance in the historical record in the third century, when their raiding activities troubled the authorities of Roman Britain. They vanished from the pages of history in the eighth century. #2 The king-list is a source of data for the early history of Scotland, but it is also a valuable contemporary source on the Picts. It dates back to the eighth century, and its oldest surviving manuscript is a product of some six centuries later. #3 The Irish annals are the most useful Celtic sources for learning about the Picts. They are a group of texts whose creators noted historical events as brief entries in a year-by-year format. The Iona Chronicle, a copy of which was taken to Ireland, was incorporated into the Irish annals. #4 Other sources are more esoteric and include legendary material presented as genuine history. The Prophecy of Berchan, for example, is a king-list which gives for each monarch his reign-length, his place of death, and other information.

1945 to 1980 marks an extensive period of mass migration of students, refugees, ex-soldiers, and workers from an extraordinarily wide range of countries to West Germany. Turkish, Kurdish, and Italian groups have been studied extensively, and while this book uses these groups as points of comparison, it focuses on ethnic communities of varying social structures—from Spain, Iran, Ukraine, Greece, Croatia, and Algeria—and examines the interaction between immigrant networks and West German state institutions as well as the ways in which patterns of cooperation and conflict differ. This study demonstrates how the social consequences of mass immigration became intertwined with the ideological battles of Cold War Germany and how the political life and popular movements within these immigrant communities played a crucial role in shaping West German society.
