Dabei bleibt es der Phantasie des Lesers überlassen, ob er Terra lucida als Traum- oder als Parallelwelt einer anderen Zeitdimension auffassen möchte. Die Erlebnisse der Titelheldin Emma Clock [Haupthandlung] vollziehen sich in der Gegenwart, wobei es immer wieder Überschneidungen mit der Traumebene "Terra lucida" gibt. Diese Überschneidungen führen im weiteren Verlauf des Abenteuers zu einer Verschmelzung von Traum- und Realitätsebene.
