Cloud computing is often described as providing computing resources the way electric utilities provide energy. In theory, anyone with an adequate connection to the Internet should be able to tap into a cloud provider and get exactly the computing resources they want when they want it, just like plugging into the electricity grid and getting exactly the energy you want when you want it. But to get that electricity, there are many standards: voltage, frequency, phase, motors constructed in standard ways—there is a long list; there is an equally long list for cloud computing. Many of the standards are already in place. Others are being developed; some in contention. Cloud Standards is a broad discussion of important existing and future standards. For existing standards, the discussion focuses on how they are used, providing practical advice to engineers constructing clouds and services to be deployed on clouds. For future standards, the discussion is on why a standard is needed, what the benefits will be, and what is being done now to fill the gap. No current book provides this information in the depth and detail necessary for an engineer in his work, an architect in designing cloud systems, a product manager collecting and evaluating products, or an executive evaluating the feasibility of a project. A second benefit from this book is that it provides insight into cloud implementations. Cloud implementations can be seen as the culmination of many trends in software and hardware engineering. Much of the foundation for these developments have been crystallized in the form of standards like TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) and HTTP (Hypertext Transmission Protocol). The book leads readers to understand how these contribute to and affect cloud implementations. Unfortunately, emerging standards are often messy. Cloud implementers may need to choose between competing proposed standards. Sometimes it is better to reject the standard entirely and "roll your own." This book provides background for intelligent decisions. Keeping a cloud, or an application implemented on a cloud, running well requires careful tuning of the implementation. Tuning often involves adjusting controls that are in the standard or applying the standard in less well-known ways. This book is an aid in tuning cloud systems for maximum benefits.

Modeling And Analysis Of Security Standards For Web Services And Cloud Computing written by Ola Ajaj and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Cloud computing categories.

Cloud Computing is a new computing model consists of a large pool of hardware and software resources on remote datacenters that are accessed through the Internet. Cloud Computing faces significant obstacles to its acceptance, such as security, virtualization, and lack of standardization. For Cloud standards, there is a long debate about their role, and more demands for Cloud standards are put on the table. The Cloud standardization landscape is so ambiguous. To model and analyze security standards for Cloud Computing and web services, we have surveyed Cloud standards focusing more on the standards for security, and we classified them by groups of interests. Cloud Computing leverages a number of technologies such as: Web 2.0, virtualization, and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). SOA uses web services to facilitate the creation of SOA systems by adopting different technologies despite their differences in formats and protocols. Several committees such as W3C and OASIS are developing standards for web services; their standards are rather complex and verbose. We have expressed web services security standards as patterns to make it easy for designers and users to understand their key points. We have written two patterns for two web services standards; WS-SecureConversation, and WS-Federation. This completed an earlier work we have done on web services standards. We showed relationships between web services security standards and used them to solve major Cloud security issues, such as, authorization and access control, trust, and identity management. Close to web services, we investigated Business Process Execution Language (BPEL), and we addressed security considerations in BPEL and how to enforce them. To see how Cloud vendors look at web services standards, we took Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a case-study. By reviewing AWS documentations, web services security standards are barely mentioned. We highlighted some areas where web services security standards could solve some AWS limitations, and improve AWS security process. Finally, we studied the security guidance of two major Cloud-developing organizations, CSA and NIST. Both missed the quality of attributes offered by web services security standards. We expanded their work and added benefits of adopting web services security standards in securing the Cloud.

NIST Special Publication 800-144 - Cloud computing can and does mean different things to different people. The common characteristics most interpretations share are on-demand scalability of highly available and reliable pooled computing resources, secure access to metered services from nearly anywhere, and displacement of data and services from inside to outside the organization. While aspects of these characteristics have been realized to a certain extent, cloud computing remains a work in progress. This publication provides an overview of the security and privacy challenges pertinent to public cloud computing and points out considerations organizations should take when outsourcing data, applications, and infrastructure to a public cloud environment.~

NIST SP 500-307 April 2018 Printed in COLOR With cloud computing in the mainstream, there is a preponderance of cloud-based services in the market and the choices for consumers increase daily. However, comparing the service offerings between cloud service providers is not a straightforward exercise. To be successful in procuring cloud services, one must have requirements that are clear, create service level agreements (SLAs) which reflect these requirements and be measureable in order to validate the delivery of these services along with their performance and remedies. As part of the decision-making framework for moving to the cloud, having data on measurable capabilities, for example - quality of service, availability and reliability, give the cloud service customer the tools and opportunity to make informed choices and to gain an understanding of the service being delivered. National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) definition of cloud computing [2] describes a "Measured Service" as being one of the five essential characteristics of the cloud computing model. To describe a "measured service", one needs to identify the cloud service properties that have to be measured and what their standards of measurement or metrics are.A metric provides knowledge about a cloud property through both its definition (e.g., expression, unit, rules) and the values resulting from the measurement of the property. For instance, a customer response time metric can be used to estimate a specific response time property (i.e., response time from customer to customer) of a cloud email service search feature. It also provides the necessary information that is needed for to reproduce and verify measurements and measurement results. Why buy a book you can download for free? We print this book so you don't have to. First you gotta find a good clean (legible) copy and make sure it's the latest version (not always easy). Some documents found on the web are missing some pages or the image quality is so poor, they are difficult to read. We look over each document carefully and replace poor quality images by going back to the original source document. We proof each document to make sure it's all there - including all changes. If you find a good copy, you could print it using a network printer you share with 100 other people (typically its either out of paper or toner). If it's just a 10-page document, no problem, but if it's 250-pages, you will need to punch 3 holes in all those pages and put it in a 3-ring binder. Takes at least an hour. It's much more cost-effective to just order the latest version from Amazon.com This book includes original commentary which is copyright material. Note that government documents are in the public domain. We print these large documents as a service so you don't have to.
