Das Buch gibt eine fundierte Einführung in die Grundlagen und Methoden der Informationstechnik: technischer Informationsbegriff, Entropie, Quellencodierung, Informationskanal und Kanalcodierung. Zwei Schwerpunkte bilden dabei die Markov-Ketten zur Modellierung diskreter gedächtnisbehafteter Quellen und die zyklischen Codes, die in der Datenübertragung zur Fehlererkennung eingesetzt werden. Das Manuskript wurde für eine 4 Stunden Lehrveranstaltung für Studierende der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik im 4. Semester an der FH Fulda entwickelt. Dem FH Studiengang gemäß wurde auf die in der Informationstheorie häufig gebrachte umfangreiche mathematische Beweisführung zugunsten eines Verständnisses der grundsätzlichen Ansätze und Zusammenhänge verzichtet. Bei der für den Leser bewusst überschaubar gehaltenen Auswahl der Themen und Beispiele wurde besonderer Wert auf eine kompakte Darstellung und die Verbindung zur Praxis gelegt.

Das vorliegende Buch wurde im Laufe von mehr als fiinf J ahren in unterschied lichen methodischen und theoretischen Annaherungen an seinen Erkenntnis gegenstand geschrieben. Die Spuren dieser Annaherungen sind - trotz mehr facher Oberarbeitungen - noch immer sichtbar. Diese Spuren sollten auch nicht getilgt werden, da sie zugleich Stufen der Reflexion und des Begriffes sind, wie sie sich im Laufe dieser Arbeit herausgebildet haben. Der Erkenntnisgegenstand des Buches laBt sich kaum stichwortartig zu sammenfassen, da er das Ergebnis der theoretischen, methodischen und praxis orientierten Reflexion von zunachst heterogen erscheinenden Problemberei chen ist. Was urspriinglich als Selbstverstandigung iiber eine neue Therapie form, iiber systemorientierte Therapie, gedacht war, erweiterte sich Schritt fUr Schritt in Richtung auf eine grundsatzliche, metatheoretische und methodo logische Diskussion von Therapie und der damit verbundenen Vorstellungen von Subjektivitat. Nachtraglich laBt sich das Ziel meines Vorhabens als Versuch iiber eine psychoanalytisch und systemtheoretisch orientierte Theorie sozialer Interak tion - mit dem Schwergewicht im Bereich familialer Interaktion - bestim men. Die Lektiire des Buches wird - so hoffe ich - zeigen, daB dies nicht mog lich ist, ohne sich gleichzeitig Gedanken zu machen iiber grundsatzliche Fragen der Konstitution von Subjektivitat und Intersubjektivitat. Gegenstand meiner Oberlegungen werden somit zugleich auch Eigentiimlichkeiten und Entstehung basaler menschlicher Erlebnis- und Ausdrucksformen sein, in den en sich Sub jektivitat herausbildet und iiber deren Weltoffenheit und Weltbezogenheit sich iiberhaupt erst so etwas wie menschlicher "Sinn" oder menschliche "Bedeutung" verstehen laBt.

These lecture notes are the contents of a two-term course given by me during the 1970-1971 academic year as Morgan Ward visiting professor at the California Institute of Technology. The students who took the course were mathematics seniors and graduate students. Therefore a thorough knowledge of algebra. (a. o. linear algebra, theory of finite fields, characters of abelian groups) and also probability theory were assumed. After introducing coding theory and linear codes these notes concern topics mostly from algebraic coding theory. The practical side of the subject, e. g. circuitry, is not included. Some topics which one would like to include 1n a course for students of mathematics such as bounds on the information rate of codes and many connections between combinatorial mathematics and coding theory could not be treated due to lack of time. For an extension of the course into a third term these two topics would have been chosen. Although the material for this course came from many sources there are three which contributed heavily and which were used as suggested reading material for the students. These are W. W. Peterson's Error-Correcting Codes «(15]), E. R. Berlekamp's Algebraic Coding Theory «(5]) and several of the AFCRL-reports by E. F. Assmus, H. F. Mattson and R. Turyn ([2], (3), [4] a. o. ).
