One aspect of common sense reasoning is reasoning about normal cases, e.g. a physician will first try to interpret symptoms by a common disease, and will take more exotic possibilities only later into account. Such "normality" can be encoded, e.g. by a relation, where case A is considered more normal than case B. This gives a standard semantics or interpretation to nonmonotonic reasoning (a branch of common sense reasoning), or, more formally, to nonmonotonic logics. We consider in this book the repercussions such normality relations and similar constructions have on the resulting nonmonotonic logics, i.e. which types of logic are adequate for which kind of relation, etc. We show in this book that some semantics correspond nicely to some logics, but also that other semantics do not correspond to any logics of the usual form. Provides a coherent picture of several formalisms of nonmonotonic logics Gives completeness and incompleteness results for many variants of preferential, distance based, and other semantics Gives probably the first systematic investigation of definability preservation and its consequences Gives new proof techniques for completeness results Is centered on semantics

Coherent Systems On Algebraic Curves written by Peter E. Newstead and has been published by World Scientific Publishing Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Mathematics categories.

The book provides a state-of-the-art description of the construction and properties of coherent systems on algebraic curves and their moduli spaces, including many results based on the research works of the author and his collaborators. This is a developing theory which generalizes the classical theory of linear systems and has applications to higher rank Brill–Noether theory, and projective embeddings of curves and syzygies.Coherent Systems on Algebraic Curves begins by describing the construction of the moduli spaces and their basic properties, before proceeding on to construction methods, coherent systems in genus 0 and 1, existence of coherent systems in higher genus, irreducibility and smoothness of the moduli spaces, and special results for rank 2 and coherent systems on special curves. Many well-worked examples and open problems are included, and links with the projective geometry of curves, emphasized.

A Set Theoretic Treatment Of Coherent Systems written by Richard Wesley Butterworth and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1971 with System theory categories.

The paper develops properties of coherent systems from a set theoretic viewpoint with particular emphasis on modules of coherent systems. The methods used here demonstrate concisely the previously reported properties of modules as well as some new properties. Specifically, min path sets and min cut sets of a coherent system are given several characterizations. The modularity of a subset of components is given a new characterization which is used as a definition. The situation under which a set and its complement are simultaneously modules is characterized. Finally, the established three modules theorem is given a new proof. (Author).

Digital Coherent Optical Systems written by Darli Augusto de Arruda Mello and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-08 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This textbook details the architecture of a digital coherent optical system and describes its main digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms. The authors first show how the combination of advanced modulation techniques, DSP and coherent detection has led to significant gains in capacity and ease of operation. The authors follow the path of the information from its generation in the transmitter, to propagation through the fiber and processing by the DSP algorithms in the receiver. The work summarizes academic results and presents them in a didactic way to students and practitioners working on the area of optical communications. A full suite of classroom materials is included for easy integration into a curriculum, containing theoretic and simulation problems, and off-the-shelf Matlab/Octave functions.

96 Results of a Logical Permutation, elaborated to explain the logic of all known philosophical and mathematical systems. The product has been to find a context for other systems of equal importance to the categorical deduction, which is the only previously known method for formulating objective knowledge statements. The goal is to give each type of system equal treatment. Although typology is a major consideration in these systems, most typologies native to science are discarded as mere lists, or as lacking logical content. Such lists are encompassed in the term 'organization' rather than 'system' --- and thus do not meet the criteria. The 'broad strokes' approach sustains considerable scrutiny as to the implications of systems besides mathematics and coherency. Included are theories of coherence and correspondence, relativity and absoluteness, recursions, equations and conjunctions, and paradoxical, exceptional, demonstrative, and positivistic reasoning. Also included is a section on pure theory, including meaningful, ethical, methodological, and logical systems.

The vast majority of reliability analyses assume that components and system are in either of two states: functioning or failed. The present paper develops basic theory for the study of systems of components in which any of a finite number of states may occur, representing at one extreme perfect functioning and at the other extreme complete failure. Axioms are laid down extending the standard notion of a coherent system to the new notion of a multistate coherent system. For such systems deterministic and probabilistic properties are obtained for system performance which are analogous to well-known results for coherent system reliability.

The theory of binary coherent systems is generalized for multi-state components. The system state is defined to be the state of the worst component in the best min path, or equivalently, the state of the best component in the worst min cut. All of the results for the binary case can be computed for multi-state systems using the binary structure and reliability function concepts. Monotonicity results are now valid with respect to stochastic ordering of component probability vectors. (Author).
