Our secular and spiritual worlds are not mutually exclusive, nor are they enemy combatants. God provides us with both the secular and the spiritual for our benefit. Our challenge during our time on this planet is to create a balance between the secular and the spiritual, which includes reconciling the two as necessary. Money's most important function is as a tool of reconciliation and enlightenment. Money has the ability to reflect more of our secular and spiritual natures than anything else on our planet. Money also has a unique ability to work between the secular and the spiritual, to bridge the gap between them, and to reconcile the two to each other. The key to better understanding your secular and spiritual worlds and reconciling the two is not to ignore or condemn money. The key is to get closer to money, to understand it fully, to learn its capabilities and its limitations. Coins and Crosses can show you how.

This guide is only intended to introduce the short cross coinage to new collectors and beginners generally and to assist in classifying these coins. It is not a scholarly work; it does not include any significant original material and some of the details and complexities have been simplified. If it enables collectors, archaeological site personnel, detectorists and others to identify the majority of normal coins at need, then its aims will have been achieved. The introduction sets out very briefly the historical context of the short cross coinage and the development of the classification system in used today. Numismatists have studied the coins for many years, but it is only since the original written records or 'Rolls' (some of which have survived from the time when these coins were struck) have been transcribed and studied that many matters have been determinded. The Rolls contain many references to financial matters of the time and the names and details of some moneyers and mint officials are recorded (sometimes with their dates of appointment, death or removal) and this information has provided to be invaluable in establishing a chronology and in placing coins of the different types in sequence.

King Harold S Cross Coinage written by Jens Christian Moesgaard and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-05-20 with categories.

About AD 975/980, Harold Bluetooth, King of Denmark c.958-c.987, introduced the first nationwide coinage in Denmark. The iconography of the coins was clearly Christian with cross motifs, reflecting the King's conversion c.962/963. This coinage rapidly played a very important role in the currency as reflected in the composition of hoards from almost all parts of the country, from Northern and Western Jutland to Scania. This wide distribution confirms the statement on the King's great rune stone in Jelling, claiming that Harold won for himself all of Denmark. This book presents a detailed analysis of the coin hoards buried in Denmark and Scania during King Harold's reign, followed by a discussion of the coinage and its function in contemporary Denmark. Recent metal detector and excavation discoveries suggest that the Cross coins were struck in Haithabu, which must have been under firm Danish control throughout the period of production. In this thriving trading place, the coins were used by number in a managed currency, in contrast to the dominant weight economy (coins and other silver artifacts used at weight) in the rest of Denmark. Moreover, King Harold very likely used the coinage for payments to the magnates of his kingdom. The distribution of the coinage was also facilitated by the dearth of silver that followed the decline in the import of Islamic dirhams from Central Asia via Russia in the 960s. The result was a widespread circulation of the Cross coins, which in turn meant the propagation of Christian images via a small and easily exchanged medium. A unique and indispensable reference work Unsurpassed in content and scope When the first edition of Gold Coins of the World made its debut in 1958, it forever changed the way gold coins were collected, cataloged, traded, and priced. For the first time, one book provided a reliable guide for a subject which previously required an often expensive investment in multiple volumes of literature, some of it rare and antique, and much of it badly out-of-date. With the publication of this pioneering work, Robert Friedberg (1912-1963) established himself as an international icon in the field of numismatic literature. This book, and the 'Friedberg Numbering System' he developed became then, and is still today, the internationally-recognized standard for systematically identifying any gold coin ever made. From just 384 pages in 1958, Gold Coins of the World has expanded to the extent that it now contains more than triple the information of its ancestor. It still stands alone as the first and only book to describe, catalog and price two millennia of gold, platinum, and palladium coin issues from across the globe. From the first coins of the ancient Greeks to the most recently-issued modern commemoratives, they are all here, an astonishing compilation of more than 21,000 individual coin listings accompanied by over 8,000 actual-size photographs. The prices have been completely updated, for the most part raised substantially, to reflect the current market. Entire sections have been expanded, many illustrations have been added or improved, and hundreds of new discoveries and recent issues have been included for the first time. Arthur Friedberg, president of the International Association of Professional Numismatists from 2001 to 2007 and now its Honorary President, and Ira Friedberg, have completely revised and expanded their late father's work. They have had the valuable assistance and cooperation of a who's who of the leading numismatists on every continent in bringing this edition to fruition. For the numismatist, banker, economist, historian, institution of higher learning, or a fancier of the noble metal in all its forms, Gold Coins of the World is a book for every library, public and private.
