A new adventure for Madeleine Toche, alone against the German Army ! Madeleine Toche races to the front only to find her brother mortally wounded during the German Blitzkrieg attack on France at the outset of World War II. His death and her rape at the hands of an SS Stormtrooper cast Madeleine down a path of death and violence when she joins the British Special Operation Executive. Killing the Gestapo is one thing, but when she’s sent after Field Marshall Erwin Rommel the entire German Army stands in her way. Discover a new thriller with Madeleine Toche, in war against the Germans to protect herself and her brother ! EXTRAIT It was spring again, and Madeleine set out to pick wild mushrooms that grew on the hills overlooking La Ciotat. The terrain was rocky with pockets of moist soil tucked under the canopy of trees. She carried a wicker basket as she walked along the narrow forested area at the edge of a cliff that overlooked the sea. Mechanically she stopped and picked up another mushroom and placed it in the basket next to two round balls of dirt hiding black truffles. She raised the basket to her face and smelled the strong aroma, trying to focus on her tasks and enjoy a few moments away from the restaurant and the worried looks of her parents. I just can’t help it, she thought. I can’t get Yves and those German pigs out of my mind. I have to do something. I can’t hide and pick mushrooms for the rest of the war. Madeleine stepped to the edge of the cliff and looked down into an inlet, knifing in from the sea, watching as a group of German soldiers lay on the beach drinking wine and splashing around in the cool azure water. A few families sat well apart from the men trying to enjoy the warmth of the beach and sun in the presence of their occupiers. CE QU'EN PENSE LA CRITIQUE Cold Lonely Courage is a fascinating, dark, and emotional account of many aspects of the second World War and all of its horrors. - Susanna, Goodreads À PROPOS DE L'AUTEUR Soren Paul Petrek est un avocat général passionné par l’étude de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Eileen was not the only agent in her family; her sister Jacqueline was a courier for the French resistance. ‘A fascinating, superbly researched and revelatory book – told with tremendous pace and excitement’ William Boyd ‘Rick Stroud writes brilliantly about war … an astonishing book … a wonderful story’ Ben Macintyre 'Enthralling, edge-of-smart exciting and also heart-breaking...Stroud's book is a reminder and fitting testimony to their immense bravery' James Holland On 18 June 1940 General de Gaulle broadcast from London to his countrymen in France about the catastrophe that had overtaken their nation – the victory of the invading Germans. He declared: ‘The flame of French Resistance must not and will not be extinguished.' The Resistance began almost immediately. At first it was made up of small, disorganised groups working in isolation. But by the time of the liberation in 1944 around 400,000 French citizens, nearly 2 per cent of the population, were involved. The Special Operations Executive (SOE) set up by Winston Churchill in 1941 saw its role in France as helping the Resistance by recruiting and organising guerrilla fighters; supplying and training them; and then disrupting the invaders by any means necessary. The aim of this work was to prepare for the invasion of Europe by Allied forces and the eventual liberation of France. It was soon decided that women would play a vital role. There were 39 female agents recruited from all walks of life, ranging from a London shop assistant to a Polish aristocrat. They all knew France well, were fluent in French and were prepared to sacrifice everything. The women trained alongside the men, learning how to disappear into the background, how to operate a radio transmitter and how to kill a man with their bare hands. Once trained, they were infiltrated behind the lines; some went on to lead thousands of Resistance fighters, while others were arrested, brutally interrogated and sent to concentration camps. Lonely Courage tells their remarkable story and sheds new light on what life was really like for these brave women.

Shortlisted for the ARA Historical Novel Prize ‘Cold Coast summons the raw beauty of Svalbard with achingly evocative prose. At once visceral and lyrical, I was totally absorbed in the story of Wanny Woldstad and her yearning for wilder freedoms.’ – Hannah Kent, author of Burial Rites In 1932, Wanny Woldstad, a young widow, travels to Svalbard, daring to enter the Norwegian trappers’ fiercely guarded male domain. She must prove to Anders Sæterdal, her trapping partner who makes no secret of his disdain, that a woman is fit for the task. Over the course of a Svalbard winter, Wanny and Sæterdal will confront polar bears, traverse glaciers, withstand blizzards and the dangers of sea ice, and hike miles to trap Arctic fox, all in the frigid darkness of the four-month polar night. For Wanny, the darkness hides her own deceptions that, if exposed, speak to the untenable sacrifice of a 1930s woman longing to fulfil a dream. Alongside the raw, confronting nature of the trappers’ work, is the story of a young blue Arctic fox, itself a hunter, who must eke out a living and navigate the trappers’ world if it is to survive its first Arctic winter.

Finding Joy in Loneliness - a phrase I thought was absolutely impossible! But this was the phrase the Lord spoke to me in 2016. I was alone while my husband was deployed and I had no idea how to live without him. He was my person. When God gave me this phrase I thought He wanted to bring me joy in the midst of deployment. I was so wrong. As I began digging deeper into what he had for me, I found that I had been dealing with loneliness my entire life. I unraveled the hurt and pain that I had been carrying with me everywhere. I felt alone during deployment, but actually, I did in life. As I unravel my life with you, my prayer is that you too will find joy in your loneliness - whatever that looks like for you. The enemy wants to steal our joy, but God is REDEEMER.

Hell Hath No Fury written by Rosalind Miles and has been published by Crown this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-02-26 with Social Science categories.

An engaging collection that uncovers injustices in history and overturns misconceptions about the role of women in war When you think of war, you think of men, right? Not so fast. In Hell Hath No Fury, Rosalind Miles and Robin Cross prove that although many of their stories have been erased or forgotten, women have played an integral role in wars throughout history. In witty and compelling biographical essays categorized and alphabetized for easy reference, Miles and Cross introduce us to war leaders (Cleopatra, Elizabeth I, Margaret Thatcher); combatants (Molly Pitcher, Lily Litvak, Tammy Duckworth); spies (Belle Boyd, Virginia Hall, Noor Inayat Khan); reporters and propagandists (Martha Gellhorn, Tokyo Rose, Anna Politkov- skaya); and more. These are women who have taken action and who challenge our perceived notions of womanhood. Some will be familiar to readers, but most will not, though their deeds during wartime were every bit as important as their male contemporaries’ more heralded contributions.
