Practical Cold Spray written by Victor Kenneth Champagne Jr. and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-06-18 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book provides a detailed explanation of the cold spray process from a practical standpoint. Drawing on the authors’ 36 years of research and development experience, it is firmly rooted in theory but also substantiated by empirical data and practical knowledge, offering potential users the information they need to recognize the advantages, as well as the limitations, of cold spray. This sets it apart from previous works on the subject, which have been purely academic. Cold spray technology has made great dramatic strides over the last 10 years and is now being used extensively in the aerospace, electronics, automotive, medical, and even the petrochemical industries. Most recently, cold spray of near-net shaped parts was accomplished – something previously assumed to be impossible because of the limitations of commercially available cold spray systems and a lack of fundamental understanding regarding the process. The cost of cold spray has also declined, making it appealing to industry through the introduction of new powders, surface preparation techniques, and recovery systems tailored to the cold spray process. Though primarily intended for users of the technology, this handbook is also a valuable resource for researchers interested in advances in cold spray materials, improved feedstock powders, advanced hardware and software development, surface preparation techniques, and the numerous applications developed to date. For example, cold spray aluminum alloys have been developed that offer the strength and ductility of wrought material in the as-sprayed condition. This has yet to be achieved by conventional powder consolidation methods including laser sintering, electron beam, and ultrasonic techniques. Other topics covered include additive manufacturing, structural repair, nondestructive evaluation, advanced cold spray materials, qualification requirements, cold spray systems comparison, and, finally, helium recovery. Thanks to its practical focus, the book provides readers with everything they need to understand, evaluate, and implement cold spray technology.

Additive Manufacturing Of Cork A Cold Spray Technology written by Kimberly Kay Dickey and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with categories.

Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing is a technology capable of mass manufacturing components with complicated geometry and coating substrates in hard-to-reach areas. In addition, cold spray also has the ability of conducting a green manufacturing process, with zero waste of renewable feed material, and zero gas and chemical emission. This paper investigates solely cold spray as an additive manufacturing technology with cork as the natural material. CFD results were used to predict the physical behavior of air and the cork particles. After unsuccessful coatings, final results showed that when moisture is added, cork is successfully cold sprayed, and agglomeration is experienced. Following these results, high speed camera and Hopkinson bar tests concluded that pressure is the only significant parameter that drastically effects the disposition quality of the cork coating. This is the first reported result of cork powder being cold sprayed, in addition to groundbreaking results of successfully coating an Aluminum substrate without a binder. Key words: cork, powder, additive manufacturing, natural materials, cold spray, binder, deposition efficiency, coating, high speed camera, Hopkinson bar.

Process Modeling And Planning For Robotic Cold Spray Based Additive Manufacturing written by Hongjian Wu and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with categories.

Cold spray (CS) is a solid-state coating deposition technology that has recently been applied as an additive manufacturing (AM) process to fabricate individual components. This potential AM process is attracting more and more attention because of its advantages: high-forming efficiency, low temperature, and no phase changing of materials. These advantages make CS able to form large-volume objects to become an efficient and effective AM process. Nowadays, new advances in cold spray additive manufacturing (CSAM) call for new process implementation to improve the manufacturing accuracy and flexibility. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to enhance CS-based AM through the modeling and planning of the robotic CS process. The work of this thesis consists of three parts.Firstly, efforts have been dedicated to design and implement a new framework for CSAM. In this part, a concept of modular system is presented. Here, the current CSAM system is decomposed into different modules in order to understand the physical and functional relationships between the key elements of the entire system. This physical and functional modularity is an indispensable necessity to promote hybrid AM processes. New modules, such as in-situ measurement module, inter-process module can be integrated into the framework to bring more possibilities to the conventional CS process. It is revealed that system modularity is suitable to revolutionize the CSAM method and conduction. It can be seen that to fully exert the potential of CSAM, efforts are still required to integrate and coordinate more technologies with the help of the proposed modular framework.Secondly, a novel approach is presented to simulate the CS deposition. Here, a three-dimensional geometric model of the coating profile based on Gaussian distribution is developed. The model is combined with robot trajectory and processing parameters to simulate the evolving CS deposits. In addition, it can offer accurate profile prediction in the robot off-line programming platform, especially in case of shadow effects, which enables the integration of robot programming with simulation to better control the coating process. The results of both numerical and experimental verifications show that this proposed method has a good prediction accuracy for practice. At last, compared with the current bulk-based volume-forming strategy (e.g. a tessellation-based method), this study proposes a new spray strategy that considers the characteristics and kinematic parameters of cold spray to enhance stable layer building for 3D shape forming. Both simulation and experiments are conducted for method verification. Layer built benchmarking test objects have better shape accuracy than that of existing methods. This implies that the proposed method makes CS a real and layer-by-layer ready AM process for 3D shape forming.
