Exotic Nations written by Renata Wasserman and has been published by Cornell University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-15 with Literary Criticism categories.

In this highly original and critically informed book, Renata R. Mautner Wasserman looks at how, during the first decades following political independence, writers in the United States and Brazil assimilated and subverted European images of an "exotic" New World to create new literatures that asserted cultural independence and defined national identity. Exotic Nations demonstrates that the language of exoticism thus became part of the New World’s interpretation of its own history and natural environment.

Material Poetics In Hemispheric America written by Kosick Rebecca Kosick and has been published by Edinburgh University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-04 with Art categories.

Reconsiders the lyrical norm that predominates in Anglophone accounts of poetry through a multilingual and transnational lensA bold project that departs from a tradition heavily dominated by the lyric to question the very nature of what counts as poetry.A visually exciting text that draws on poetry and art from a wide array of late twentieth and early twenty-first century practitioners. An interdisciplinary approach to poetry and poetics that opens new avenues for understanding how poetry intersects with philosophies of the object, media theory, and visual studies.A transnational frame that responds to a growing scholarly push to situate American studies within the broader context of the American hemisphere. This book examines poets and artists in the Americas during the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries to show how they worked to make language into material objects and material objects into language. It builds a theory of 'material poetics' that provides an alternative account of poetry in hemispheric America. Rebecca Kosick argues that by reframing American poetry to prominently include object-oriented practices within and beyond the United States, material poetry can be seen as representing a significant branch of the American poetic tradition.

Sean Stroud examines how and why Música Popular Brasileira (MPB) has come to have such a high status, and why the musical tradition (including MPB) within Brazil has been defended with such vigour for so long. He emphasizes the importance of musical nationalism as an underlying ideology to discussions about Brazilian popular music since the 1920s, and the key debate on so-called 'cultural invasion' in Brazil. The roles of those responsible for the construction of the idea of MPB are examined in detail. Stroud goes on to consider the impact of the Brazilian record industry in the light of theories of cultural imperialism and globalization and also evaluates governmental intervention relating to popular music in the 1970s.

Exhibition of object art of De Andrade (b. Brazil). It is the most comprehensive exhibition to date of draftsman, engraver and painter. The show captures the unique work of an artist who consistently won awards during the period extending from 1962-1970, only to be practically forgotten throughout the last two decades of his life. Cloistered in his own solitude, he principally expressed the impact of his own fears, pain, sadness, resentments, complexes, losses, depressions, repressions, panic states, relationships, fetishes, libido, etc. The apex of the artist's work and the high point of the exhibition are the forgotten conceptual artistic and aesthetic weath of the assemblages that impregnate the Farnesean universe in which procreation was considered a crime.
