This book covers image and video color editing research advances over the last two decades. Bringing readers up to speed on digital image and video editing techniques and research, the book delves into an area that has attracted much attention from researchers due to the rapid development of computer graphics and the widespread prevalence of digital cameras and mobile phones in daily life. Readers will get a comprehensive overview of the theory and application of color transfer, emotional color transfer, colorization, decolorization, and style transfer in altering still and moving digital images. Despite the existence of professional image editing software that can complete complex image editing work, the skills required to achieve satisfactory editing results can be prohibitive, and even professional image editors need to spend a lot of time developing and maintaining aptitude in a niche tool. Instead, the book explores image and video editing techniques that are simple and effective alternatives to such editing software that professional and amateur image editors can utilize. The book focuses on color as one of the most important features of an image or video. Image and video color editing aims to dramatically alter source images suitable for a wide range of applications.

This book is aimed at those using colour image processing or researching new applications or techniques of colour image processing. It has been clear for some time that there is a need for a text dedicated to colour. We foresee a great increase in the use of colour over the coming years, both in research and in industrial and commercial applications. We are sure this book will prove a useful reference text on the subject for practicing engineers and scientists, for researchers, and for students at doctoral and, perhaps masters, level. It is not intended as an introductory text on image processing, rather it assumes that the reader is already familiar with basic image processing concepts such as image representation in digital form, linear and non-linear filtering, trans forms, edge detection and segmentation, and so on, and has some experience with using, at the least, monochrome equipment. There are many books cov ering these topics and some of them are referenced in the text, where appro priate. The book covers a restricted, but nevertheless, a very important, subset of image processing concerned with natural colour (that is colour as per ceived by the human visual system). This is an important field because it shares much technology and basic theory with colour television and video equipment, the market for which is worldwide and very large; and with the growing field of multimedia, including the use of colour images on the Inter net.

"With the advent of novel digital display technologies, color processing is increasingly becoming a key aspect in consumer video applications. Today's state-of-the-art displays require sophisticated color and image reproduction techniques in order to achieve larger screen size, higher luminance and higher resolution than ever before. However, from color science perspective, there are clearly opportunities for improvement in the color reproduction capabilities of various emerging and conventional display technologies. This research seeks to identify potential areas for improvement in color processing in a video processing chain. As part of this research, various processes involved in a typical video processing chain in consumer video applications were reviewed. Several published color and contrast enhancement algorithms were evaluated, and a novel algorithm was developed to enhance color and contrast in images and videos in an effective and coordinated manner. Further, a psychophysical technique was developed and implemented for performing visual evaluation of color image and consumer video quality. Based on the performance analysis and visual experiments involving various algorithms, guidelines were proposed for the development of an effective color and contrast enhancement method for images and video applications. It is hoped that the knowledge gained from this research will help build a better understanding of color processing and color quality management methods in consumer video."--Abstract.

Digital Image Enhancement and Reconstruction: Techniques and Applications explores different concepts and techniques used for the enhancement as well as reconstruction of low-quality images. Most real-life applications require good quality images to gain maximum performance, however, the quality of the images captured in real-world scenarios is often very unsatisfactory. Most commonly, images are noisy, blurry, hazy, tiny, and hence need to pass through image enhancement and/or reconstruction algorithms before they can be processed by image analysis applications. This book comprehensively explores application-specific enhancement and reconstruction techniques including satellite image enhancement, face hallucination, low-resolution face recognition, medical image enhancement and reconstruction, reconstruction of underwater images, text image enhancement, biometrics, etc. Chapters will present a detailed discussion of the challenges faced in handling each particular kind of image, analysis of the best available solutions, and an exploration of applications and future directions. The book provides readers with a deep dive into denoising, dehazing, super-resolution, and use of soft computing across a range of engineering applications. Presents comprehensive coverage of digital image enhancement and reconstruction techniques Explores applications across range of fields, including intelligent surveillance systems, human-computer interaction, healthcare, agriculture, biometrics, modelling Explores different challenges and issues related to the implementation of various techniques for different types of images, including denoising, dehazing, super-resolution, and use of soft computing
