Combat Infantry written by Donald E. Anderson and has been published by Trafford Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Filling an essential gap in the understanding of warfare during World War II, author Donald E. Anderson describes life as a young enlisted man in Hawaii prior to the bombing of Pearl Harbor when he had only six months left in his tour. In Combat Infantry, he provides an emotional and firsthand account of the Pearl Harbor bombing and his next four years of service as he fought disease and injury, spending time in New Caledonia and New Zealand. A member of the 35th Regiment, 25th Division, he captures in vivid detail the fighting in the jungles of Guadalcanal and later, five months of continuous combat on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. Anderson describes the grueling combats and deprivations faced by army infantrymen to liberate the islands. Anderson tells of a soldier's world that was confined to muddy foxholes, a dustclouded stretch of mined road, or a rocky, fog-shrouded mountain ridge where fear and fatigue took its toll. In Combat Infantry, he pays tribute to those who were killed in action. They are not just names carved on a stone monument, but living, breathing souls who gave their lives for freedom.

The Combat Infantryman Badge is awarded for serving thirty days or more under enemy fire. My qualification for this was issued from the Twenty-seventh Infantry special order 194, which reads, “For exemplary performance of duty in ground combat against the enemy” by the order of Lieutenant Colonel Gagwin. The classification of 1745L, combat infantry leader took place following satisfactory completion of a special military school for that purpose. The CIB is a salute to army personnel who risked their lives and experienced “incoming enemy fire” from those who planned to kill them. It was chosen as the title for this book because of the sacrifice made by many across the years in military service. Some returned to the USA without a homecoming celebration, and some died on the battlefields or in route, but in all cases they willingly or unwillingly faced the fire and were true to our nation’s call.

In this “great and necessary addition to the canon of Vietnam War memoirs” the author “is a thoroughly human Virgil guiding us through the hell of combat” (New York Journal of Books). Peter Clark’s year in Vietnam began in July 1966, when he was shipped out with hundreds of other young recruits as a replacement in the 1st Infantry Division. Assigned to the Alpha Company, Clark gives a visceral and vivid account of life in the platoon as he progresses from green recruit to seasoned soldier over the course of a year. Alpha One Sixteen follows Clark as he discovers how to handle the daily confusion of distinguishing combatants from civilians. The Viet Cong were a largely unseen enemy who fought a guerrilla war, setting traps and landmines everywhere. As he continues his journey, Clark gradually learns the techniques for coping with the daily horrors he encounters, the technical skills needed to fight and survive, and how to deal with the awful reality of civilian casualties. Fighting aside, it rained almost every day, and insect bites constantly plagued the soldiers as they moved through dense jungle, muddy rice paddies, and sandy roads. From the food they ate to the inventive ways they managed to shower—and the off-duty time they spent in the bars of Tokyo—every aspect of the platoon’s lives is explored in this revealing book. A Military Book Club main selection.

The ETO is seen by many as the major theater of World War II, with more infantry regiments serving there than any other. This title follows one soldier ("Joseph") as he is drafted in February 1941, trains with the 22d Infantry in the United States and then ships to England in January 1944. On D-Day he lands on Utah Beach and in the following months fights through France, Belgium, and into Germany. The problems the common soldier faced between June 1944 and May 1945 are dealt with in particular in this authoritative and moving book.

This book tells what infantry combat was like for the author in two battles in Italy and eight in France and Germany while serving in the Third Infantry Division in World War II. It gives the reader a good idea what we ask from our young soldiers when sending them into combat. The author was very lucky to escape after being wounded and captured. The author was in front line infantry combat for a little over a year.
