Grapus is a French graphic design collective founded in Paris by François Miehe, Pierre Bernard and Gérard Paris-Clavel immediately following the student protests of May 1968. The group saw life as a field for experimentation, putting the new political, social and cultural debates into graphic form for public discussion. At first Grapus designed posters for local chapters of the Communist Party; 20 years later, they designed the corporate identity for the Louvre in Paris. By the late 1980s, the collective's fruitful days were over. In its productive phase it had attracted many highly-committed graphic artists, and was honoured with the French Grand prix national des arts plastiques in 1990. Léo Favier set out in search of the colleagues and fellow campaigners of old. The 25 interviews in his book tell of the utopian working methods and heated disputes that formed the heart of this collective way of life.

France And The Visual Arts Since 1945 written by Catherine Dossin and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-20 with Art categories.

Taking on the myth of France's creative exhaustion following World War II, this collection of essays brings together an international team of scholars, whose research offers English readers a rich and complex overview of the place of France and French artists in the visual arts since 1945. Addressing a wide range of artistic practices, spanning over seven decades, and using different methodologies, their contributions cover ground charted and unknown. They introduce greater depth and specificity to familiar artists and movements, such as Lettrism, Situationist International or Nouveau Réalisme, while bringing to the fore lesser known artists and groups, including GRAPUS, the Sociological Art Collective, and Nicolas Schöffer. Collectively, they stress the political dimensions and social ambitions of the art produced in France at the time, deconstruct the traditional geography of the French art world, and highlight the multiculturalism of the French art scene that resulted from its colonial past and the constant flux of artistic travels and migrations. Ultimately, the book contributes to a story of postwar art in which France can be inscribed not as a main or sub chapter, but rather as a vector in the wider constellation of modern and contemporary art.

I Seem To Live written by Jonas Mekas and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11 with Art categories.

"I seem to live: the New York diaries, 1950-2011 is Jonas Mekas's key literary work. The first volume of this magnum opus, covering the period from 1950-1969, appears posthumously in the year of his death. It stands on an equal fooing with his cinematic oeuvre, which he initially developed together with his brother Adolfas after their arrival in New York. In 1954, the two brothers founded Film Culture magazine, and a weekly column for The Village Voice. It was in this period that his writing, films, and unflagging commitment to art began to establish him as a pioneer of American avant-garde cinema and the barometer of the New York art scene. An assemblage of Jonas's diaries from this exciting period, enriched with his own personal visual material, I seem to live: the New York diaries, vol. 1, 1950-1969 reads as a moving and subjectively condensed chronology of the postwar New York underground scene, which he shaped and defended through his writings"--Page 4 of cover

The World As Design written by Otl Aicher and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-04-27 with Architecture categories.

Otl Aicher's writings are explorations of the world, a substantive part of his work. In moving through the history of thought and design, building and construction, he assures us of the possibilities of arranging existence in a humane fashion. As ever he is concerned with the question of the conditions needed to produce a civilised culture. These conditions have to be fought for against apparent factual or material constraints and spiritual and intellectual substitutes on offer. Otl Aicher likes a dispute. For this reason, the volume contains polemical statements on cultural and political subjects as well as practical reports and historical exposition. He fights with productive obstinacy, above all for the renewal of Modernism, which he claims has largely exhausted itself in aesthetic visions; he insists the ordinary working day is still more important than the "cultural Sunday". Iran written by Oliver Hartung and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Iran categories.

Since the revolution in 1979, Iran has developed an image culture projecting statesanctioned religious ideology in public spaces that serve as transit zones. Between 2011 and 2014, German artist and former freelance photographer for the New York Times Oliver Hartung produced a body of work on Iran comprised of images which, upon first glance, depict colorful street paraphernalia, posters, graffiti, murals, monuments, and war cemeteries, but upon a closer inspection reveal a much deeper psychology engineered to bolster the myth of the Islamic Republic. Hartungs unique view of the Middle Eastoften lost amid images of war and conflictcreates a portrait of a country still largely unknown to the West. Part of a long-term project exploring the contemporary cultures of the Middle East, Hartungs thoughtful monograph is packed with over 300 color images. Hartungs last publication with Spector was Syria Al-Assad.
