Saint Jean Chrysostome commente dans ses sermons, l'évangile selon saint Jean. Grand orateur, appelé « saint Jean bouche d'or », il sait toucher son auditoire. Il est « le bon médecin des âmes ». Prompt à corriger les travers humains, il parle, supplie, exhorte, tempête, captivant l'attention des fidèles. Bien que parfois très longs, ses sermons étaient applaudis, ils touchaient les coeurs car saint Jean Chrysostome a le don des images et sa pensée, profonde, précise admirablement l'Écriture, mais il ne reste pas théorique et renvoie chacun avec un objectif concret et pratique. Personne ne peut rester indifférent à ses mots, ils sont intemporels. L'auteur : Saint Jean Chrysostome est né à Antioche vers 344. En 397, il succède à Nectaire comme archevêque de Constantinople, déposé illégalement en 403 à cause de sa grande rigueur, il doit partir en exil où il meurt le 14 septembre 407 près du Caucase. Réhabilité dès 438 par le Pape Innocent, son corps est ramené triomphalement à Constantinople. Il est l'un des quatre plus grands Pères de l'Église.
