This volume is a collection of essays written in honor of David Burr, emeritus professor at the Polytechnic University of Virginia (Blacksburg): a scholar who has spent a career researching and publishing on the multi-faceted phenomenon of the Spiritual Franciscans (late 13th-early 14th century) and, in particular, on the life and writings of Peter of John Olivi in southern France. Wizja czasów ostatecznych w Apokaliptyce Joachima z Fiore przedstawia jedną z ciekawszych interpretacji końca świata w odniesieniu do wydarzeń i postaci historycznych oraz stanowi próbę wejrzenia w przyszłość, jakiej podjął się XII-wieczny, kalabryjski opat Joachim z Fiore na podstawie księgi Pisma Świętego, zwłaszcza Apokalipsy św. Jana. Celem pracy jest przybliżenie czytelnikowi zarówno samej postaci średniowiecznego egzegety – Joachima z Fiore, jak i wypracowanej przez niego koncepcji trójpodziału i interpretacji dziejów w kontekście trynitarnym, szczególnie koncentrując uwagę na ostatnim okresie – epoce Ducha Świętego. W świetle wspomnianej powyżej koncepcji przedstawiona została wizja kalabryjskiego opata dotycząca czasów ostatecznych, poprzedzona objaśnieniem metod egzegetycznych, z jakich korzystał opat, a zwłaszcza typologia biblijna oraz zasada zgodności obu Testamentów w odniesieniu do całości historii Narodu Wybranego i chrześcijaństwa. W niniejszej pracy zaprezentowana została Joachimowa interpretacja Apokalipsy św. Jana, na podstawie dzieł Joachima z Fiore (głównie Expositio in Apocalypsim), jak również dorobku mediewistów i teologów zajmujących się twórczością kalabryjskiego opata. Zaprezentowano porównanie zbieżnych koncepcji historiozoficznych Joachima z Fiore i św. Augustyna z Hippony. Praca opatrzona została zarówno łacińskimi fragmentami dzieł Joachima jak i tłumaczeniami tychże na język polski. W dwóch aneksach przedstawiono również zbiór diagramów zawartych w Liber Figurarum, pomocnych w zrozumieniu Joachimowych idei omawianych w niniejszej pracy oraz przetłumaczony testament Joachima z Fiore, dowodzący jego wierności Urzędowi Nauczycielskiemu Kościoła.
