La Metafisica rappresenta una delle opere più straordinarie del pensiero filosofico. In questa edizione con testo a fronte, la nuova traduzione e il commento di Enrico Berti, il più autorevole studioso di Aristotele. L’importanza di questa nuova traduzione della Metafisica di Aristotele, cioè dell’opera che più di ogni altra ha influenzato la filosofia occidentale, consiste anzitutto nel fatto che essa si basa non sul testo delle più recenti edizioni critiche, come fanno tutte le altre traduzioni, ma sul testo dei manoscritti della cosiddetta ‘famiglia alpha’, oggi riconosciuti da tutti gli studiosi come i più affidabili perché non influenzati dal commento di Alessandro di Afrodisia e degli altri commentatori antichi. Il testo riprodotto a fronte della traduzione è quello dell’edizione Ross, ma il traduttore segnala in nota tutti i passi in cui se ne discosta. Questa scelta, del tutto nuova, permette di restituire in più luoghi il pensiero originale di Aristotele. La traduzione si differenzia da tutte le precedenti per il suo carattere il più possibile letterale, che aderisce al testo greco rendendo tra virgolette i neologismi e le espressioni tecniche introdotte da Aristotele. Ogni intervento del traduttore che vada oltre la lettera è accuratamente posto tra parentesi uncinate, in modo da essere riconoscibile come tale. Le note, oltre a segnalare le variazioni rispetto all’edizione Ross, aiutano la comprensione dei passi più difficili e introducono nuove interpretazioni, dovute agli studi più recenti e alle ricerche dello stesso traduttore. L’introduzione infine propone una nuova interpretazione complessiva della Metafisica di Aristotele, frutto di oltre cinquant’anni di studi personali. (Fuente: Laterza).
