Serial Communication Protocols And Standards written by Dawoud Shenouda Dawoud and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-09-01 with Science categories.

Data communication standards are comprised of two components: The “protocol” and “Signal/data/port specifications for the devices involved”. The protocol describes the format of the message and the meaning of each part of the message. To connect any device to the bus, an external device must be used as an interface which will put the message in a form which fulfills all the electrical specifications of the port. These specifications are called the “Standard”. The most famous such serial communication standard is the RS-232. In IT technology, Communication can be serial or parallel. Serial communication is used for transmitting data over long distances. It is much cheaper to run the single core cable needed for serial communication over a long distance than the multicore cables that would be needed for parallel communication. It is the same in wireless communication: Serial communication needs one channel while parallel needs multichannel. Serial Communication can also be classified in many other ways, for example synchronous and asynchronous; it can also be classified as simplex, duplex and half duplex. Because of the wide spread of serial communication from home automation to sensor and controller networks, there is a need for a very large number of serial communication standards and protocols. These have been developed over recent decades and range from the simple to the highly complicated. This large number of protocols was necessary to guarantee the optimum performance for the targeted applications. It is important for communication engineers to have enough knowledge to match the right protocol and standard with the right application. The main aim of this book is to provide the reader with that knowledge The book also provides the reader with detailed information about:- Serial Communication- Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UART)- Universal Synchronous/Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (USART - Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) - eSPI- Universal Serial Bus (USB)- Wi-Fi- WiMax- Insteon The details of each technology including specification, operation, security related matters, and many other topics are covered. The book allocates three chapters to the main communication standards. These chapters cover everything related to the most famous standard RS-232 and all its variants. Other protocols such as: I2C, CAN, ZigBee, Z-Wave, Bluetooth, and others, are the subject of the authors separate book “Microcontroller and Smart Home Networks”.

Pioneering New Serials Frontiers: From Petroglyphs to Cyberserials represents the proceedings from the North American Serials Interest Group's annual conference held at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. From librarians, publishers, vendors, and scholars, this collection provides many perspectives on the issues and problems facing everyone involved in producing, maintaining, and using journal literature. You will gain insight, ideas, and some practical skills for dealing with the changing world of serials. Pioneering New Serials Frontiers includes presentations from the conference's plenary sessions, the discussions from concurrent sessions, and the summary reports of each of the preconferences and workshops. Just as the attendees did, you'll have the opportunity to acquire specialized knowledge of standards for Electronic Data Exchange and to develop new skills as risktakers. You'll also learn the answers to these questions: How do you manage the ever-growing and increasingly complex arena of electronic serials? What does the serialist need to know about copyright issues and electronic product licensing? How does one evaluate and select Internet resources--and once selected, how are they cataloged and maintained? What is the role of the paper-based journal . . . from a publisher's perspective? How is electronic publishing making inroads in scholarly publishing? How should we bridge the gap between the Internet and libraries? What's the best way to educate and retrain serialists for change? Whether you were in attendance at this conference or not, Pioneering New Serials Frontiers is the resource that recaps all that transpired. From technical service concerns and customer relations to management strategies and working with the Web, the variety of topics covered in this book helps confirm that today's serialist must contend with and manage new formats, new standards, and new technologies.

This book, first published in 1993, addresses important questions about the future that libraries need to answer today such as: What will change for serials librarians, vendors, and publishers as ink and paper become the oddity and electronic transmitters and receivers become the norm? What services will be in demand and who will provide them? Which economic models will keep them afloat? Most importantly, can the disparate groups currently active in scholarly communication work together to build the physical, social, and economic backbone of a new model? This book is an invaluable guide to the future of serials librarianship. It describes new technologies, predicts how the publishing industry will develop in the near future, and explores how the library may evolve within a new system of scholarly communication. Just a few of the exciting topics covered include the development of standards for networking technologies; the shift from ownership to access in libraries as a result of electronic information; the history of scholarly communication; copyright of electronic data; higher education in the 1990s; and marketing in libraries.
